Does anyone know what kind of formula they use to figure out child support and spousal support?

There is a site when looking under Divorce on the internet. It lists each state and the formulas for child support/spousal support.<P>But it never works out that way. I am intitled to 351.00 a week. I get 150.00 a week. That will be raised when divorce is final...but last I heard it will be around 230.00 a week.<P>They give the non-custodial parent (in our state) a discount for visitation and carrying insurance.<P>My stbx gets about a 60.00 a week discount for visitation and another 20.00 a week for insurance.<P>Nancy

It must be different in each state. Here in OH, there is a form that lists number of children in column across the top and salary ranges along the side. <P>You then read across at your income level to the number of children and thats what it "takes" to raise that number of children.<P>They then determine the percentage of income the spouse supplies and multiplies that by the amount it takes to raise the kid/s and that is the support amount.<P>They also take the handling fees, about 2% per month in my case, out of the support.<P>I'm pulling in just under $400 per month.

Each state is different. In MN they take a percentage of your net income from the ncp. The percentage depends on how many kids you have. 1 child is 25%, 2 is 30%. They are very concerned about the children maintaining their current life style (how do you do that when you are now supporting 2 homes). Spousal support depends on a lot of things. Was it a long term marriage? Is the cp able to work? They also give no breaks to the ncp when they have the kids. A NCP could take the kids 50% of the time and he'd still have to pay full child support. So with this law, it's hard on the CP IF the NCP has a lower income, but if the NCP has a high income they can do very well. For instance, I receive 600.00 per mo. from my ex for 2 kids, my husband pays $2,000 per month for 2 kids. They do not take into consideration what it costs to raise the kids.

go here <A HREF="http://www.supportguidelines.com/links.html" TARGET=_blank>http://www.supportguidelines.com/links.html</A> <P>for the legislative language for all 50 states.<P>This site also contains child support calculators for many states. You will probably get less than the calculators says, but it should give you a ballpark figure. The calcualtors are here <A HREF="http://www.supportguidelines.com/calcs.html" TARGET=_blank>http://www.supportguidelines.com/calcs.html</A> <p>[This message has been edited by grandpabri2 (edited June 01, 2000).]
