Funny how our perspective on things change when we are going through a divorce. I watched Gone With the Wind last night and saw it with completely different eyes. My isn't Scarlett the selfish strumpet? MY H IS JUST LIKE HER! Completely self absorbed, doesn't care about anything that doesn't concern her directly, chasing after things that aren't real, ignoring all the things that matter in life, not seeing love where it has always been, walking all over people to get what she wants, lying, absorbed with material things, needing to conquer the world for the sake of conquering, needing to gather hearts of people who don't matter to her... oh I could just go on and on!
I used to think she was the heroine of the story. She's nothing but a two-bit slut!
At least Scarlett had an epiphany at the end and realized she loved Rhett and he loved her too. I don't think my H will ever get there. How can he when he doesn't leave enough time in between women to feel anything?

I read Terry Waite's autobiography - he was the envoy of the church of England who was held hostage in Lebanon for about 5 years.
He referred to something Augustine said and it goes a bit like this:
To have peace, you must know yourself. And to know yourself, you must first be alone.

Popeye:
I often found it tragic that it was only during the last ten minutes of the movie that Scarlett realized her love for Rhett and that during the other three hours, she wasted her life and love on that dull and nauseating Ashley.
Ashley didn't play fair either, leading Scarlett on and in a sense, being 'unfaithful' to Melanie on several levels.
Scarlett often comes off like a shrewd 'valleygirl' but compartmentalizing the tragedy du jour with statements like "I can't think about that now, I will worry about it tomorrow" and "tomorrow is another day". In a sense I suppose it's her survival mechanism kicking in to allow her to keep moving forward, however, her blatant self absorption and betrayals of her sister and her friend by taking their beaus shows her lack of character and that she cannot be trusted. She is also a pretty uninvolved mother.
All in all she's a pretty interesting character that has capitvated audiences for over a half a century. The casting of that movie was amazing...
Perhaps one day when "poorme" declares his love for you, you can tell him, "Frankly, Poorme, I don't give a damn." Love your humor.
The fact that she has captivated audience for so long just goes to show you what a bit of personality, flirtation, and being cute can do for a person. Oh, it hides so much, doesn't it? I don't feel bad for being taken in by it.

i could always relate to that scarlett slut...was just like her for a long time. there were several rhetts in my life, and i THOUGHT i married one. but now i see it the other way. thanks, popeye. i have seriously grown, and h never grew up. whatever HIS goal at hand is, is SOOOO important, and everything else is pushed out completely.
Melly is the true heroine in that story...talk about the plan A queen...
also, i used to think of OW as belle watling, but that woman knew her place in society, and didn't try to steal men from where they belonged, and my H OW actually prides herself on her howewrecking ability. YUCK!!!!

Belle Watley was a babe of the highest moral order because she told Rhett to go home to Scarlett..."even though "it gave her no pleasure" to tell him to.

When I first saw this movie again, my focus was on Scarlett, but since then, it's changed to what a wonderful role model Mellie was! Has the separation/divorce experience done this for others too?
What I am talking about is that I see signs and life lessons in EVERYTHING now. I see examples of how to be more positive and how love works in life. It inspires me to be that, to live that.
I realize now that I wasn't living like that before. I closed down years ago because of the hurt of my H's first EA. How dead that existance seems now.
It's strange, but I am more willing to feel and live now, even though I have been tremendously hurt, than I was before. Does anyone else feel this way?
