howdy all...I'm taking the kids to visit my W's family in Indiana next week (for 5 days). My W wasn't too happy about me taking them there; she told the kids she wasn't going because she wasn't invited. Putting the guilt trip on them is what I think...
The fact is, they (her two sisters and mother) invited me a few months ago when they were in town trying to figure out what the h*ll she was doing with her life. They've pretty much disowned her, although her sisters keep in contact (minimal) with her via e-mail. Let's just say she wouldn't be welcomed with open arms if she took the kids to visit them...
Am I wrong for taking the vacation without asking her permission? I'm not even sure what to expect (hopefully it's similar to past visits, just without W).
btw, I'm not at all feeling guilty about it...she's taking a vacation with the OM from July 29th-August 5th and isn't taking the kids with her. Ugh, what a horrid woman she is....
theo

Theo,
Its good for the kids to keep in contact with their aunts/uncles/cousins and grandparents.
I just spent the 3rd and 4th of July with my x's sister's family and then x's parents came on the 4th. My SIL supports me and is angry with her sister. My FIL and MIL both act like nothing is wrong. I have to admit I felt a little uncomfortable at the picnic, sitting there with my x's sister and parents and her not being there. I also spent some time with them at Christmas time.
The strange part is that my x didn't seem to mind. She is distancing herself from her family, speaking to sister only once she last July. I'm not sure how often she talks to her parents, but she hasn't gone to seem them in a while.
She did see them a little when they were here watching the kids in May and in June at a funeral for her uncle, except that she brought om along and that resulted everyone being cool towards her.
Go ahead and go. POint out to the kids that the trip is for them. Don't recruit your inlaws to your side as it may backfire.
Best wishes
Bob

thanks Bob...she brought the OM to her uncle's funeral eh? Talk about a faux pas...eeesh.
I will mention to the kids that this trip is for them. Maybe it'll be more of a realization to me how backward her thinking is once I talk to her sisters...
have a good weekend!
theo
