with my x, now I'm having problems with my s's friend's father. This guy has to be the most irresponsible person I know, includiing my x!!!
Last week my S spent the nite there. So the next day I call to see when I can pick him up. They never answer the phone, so I end up leavinf 4 messages. I tell them my d has a game at 6 and I had a game at 9 so please call.
Nothing, no return call on my cell or on the home answering machine. I get home from d's game and get a phone call, so as I'm talking, my s rides up on his bike. The kid's father had dropped him off sometime earlier when nobody was home!!
I was going to say something to him, I wasn't sure what, after all, how do you tell someone that are an incompantant parent.
So I make the same mistake tonite. S spends nite there, father brings him here at 4, and my s asks if his friend can stay for a few hours. I say yes as I have a game tonite and they can play at the playground and then I will take him home. So that what we do.
So when I take the kid home, no one is there ! The mother is at the local county fair and the father is at work! Nobody told me that!!
I was tempted to just leave the kids there by himself, but didn't.
His mother finally came around 10:30 to pick him up. She said the father was supposed to bring the boy to her at the fair prior to him going to work.
And this guy is an ER Doc!!!
I guess I'll have to hold his hadn too!

Alright what's happening to all my replies. I reply and I go check back and there's nothing there????
And why doesn't my password work anymore???
Bob
How old are the boys? I had to read this twice, I was thinking S was spouse, and then I figured it, SON , HELLO, I'm awake now. I know, how long have I been here?? I'm used to other things like LRB, you know?
I don't look forward to this stuff, I see already kids who are my own daughter's age, 9!! The other day some woman called my house to tell me to send her daughter home for dinner. I asked my daughter who this was. She said some girl on the bus who she doesn't know. Apparently the girl tells her mom she's at MY house and I don't even know who she is?? There was no number to call back.
What is up with parents who don't take care of, or know where their kids are???
This kid's dad is a doctor?? Just what I want to hear.
hang in there,Dana

Hi RWD -
Ya know.....I just realized something very maddening.....
I don't know whether to be ticked that so many people are just plain self-absorbed and stupid.....OR....be glad that our own situations fit right in!!!!! ACK!!!!
It's a sad state of affairs, this world of ours!!!! And they wonder why so many kids are the way they are!!!!
Thank goodness for people - like you!!!
Please just stay responsible!!! At least then I know that there is someone out there who is!!! LOL!!!
HUGS,
Sheba

RWD:
I echo Sheba's sentiments.
The more I hear and see re parenting, the more horrified I am....
This self absorbed and instant gratification world of ours does our children no favours. It teaches them the wrong lessons at the wrong times in their lives. I do hope that they learn how to conduct themselves in a meaqningful way, having evaluated the messes their parents make.(or at least some of their parents who are too self absorbed to understand what this aspcet of life is all about.)

Hey all,
My son is 9, will be 10 in Dec. The friend is 8 or 9, not sure when his birthday is.
I left out alot of the other stuff. The parents are separated, kind of. He lives in the basement, she lives in the rest of the house. She says she won't leave him because she can't afford to as he GIVES her $3000/ month. She doesn't work, but has started back to school. I'm not sure she is sharp enough to sharpen pencils.
I have more rules for my son to follow there than I do at home. He can't drive/ride the four wheeler as he wrecked it last year and hurt his ribs, they never told us. He can't cross the run way, they live in an airport community. She told me their son was almost hit by a plane while he was on their golf cart and was looking for his dad. He missed seeing a plane landing.
I am trying to figure how I can wean my son away from him, but they have so much stuff, my son loves going there.
The woman is quite vain too. While she is attractive, thats all she seems to talk about. I went to the county fair last night and saw her and her kids there. We were talking and I said I saw a lot of people I knew. She said she always keeps her head down and doesn't acknowledge people because men are ALWAY hitting on her and saying crude things to her. She has told me this story several times. I guess I have a hard time believing that many men are so crude(I do believe men are crude, but you can't tell that many are. Are there ?)

Bob,
Some people aren't cut out to be parents thats all there is to it.
Unfortunately all kids love going to that house where the kids have all the cool toys. Thats not a good way to raise kids, spoiled, materialistic and unable to occupy themselves with something as simple as a good book or a bike!!
I remember being a kid and my parents trying to discourage me from hanging with certain people, the more they tried, the more I fought them. I'm not sure what you can do in that situation?????
As far as that "mom" goes, she sounds like an attention seeker, and her attitude is what gets her the "crude ones".
There aren't that many bad ones out there as I thought, but what you put out is what you get back!!!!
How sad to go through life with your head down, over something like that.
Dana,
Found out that my son spent the nite at the friend's house agaiin last nite. X took im to fair again and left him with them. My d said that my s had spent all his money but that the friend wouldn't lend him any money so she lent him some.
Then s called about 4 today and said he wanted to come home/mothers as he didn't want to go to fair again and the father was going to work.
I was tempted to tell him come home, but told him to call his mother to make sure she was at her house.
I think you are right about her being an attention seeker. She says people are always commenting about her in her tennis or riding outfits. Well don't wear them out in public then!
I am hoping that once school starts and since they are not in the same room maybe that friendship will die off.
