I spoke with a marriage counselor the other evening and when I talked to him today to set an appointment he told me that my husband and I would probably be better served with Imago therapy as he thinks, given what I described, that my husband has a number of unrealized subconscious issues.
Does anyone know about this type of therapy? What can we expect?

What your therapist is reffering to is Dr. Harville Hendrick's therapy reffering to reasons we choose our partners. You talk pretty much about your parents and the qualities that your spouse has that reminds you of one or both parents. It can help you come to terms with issues that you may have with a parent that you may be taking out on your spouse only because she or he may have the same qualities.
I hope this helps you. My therapist had me read his books and do the couples workbook which is excellent for everyday at-home therapy.
Good luck to you.

There is also a web site - www.imagotherapy.com that you may want to check out.
I've read Dr. Hendrix's book as well - it's an interesting approach and I found it very good in terms of helping me to understand myself a bit better (why I made the choices I made) and it also helped me to be more understanding and compassionate regarding some of my husband's actions and choices.
