Last nite as my lady friend and I were pulling into the video store, I had a premonition that my x might be there with the kids. Well guess whose car was the first one I saw. Yep, it was the x's.
In it was the om and his mother. I asked my friend if it was alright if we went around the block because x was in the store and she said okay.
As we started to go around I saw x and the kids coming out. They didn't see us though.
I feel I was wrong now, that I should have just gone in. It just felt so awkward. I'm not sure how the kids would have felt either.
I appologized to my lady friend as I was afraid she would interepret it as I didn't want to be seen with her. She said she understood and not to worry about it. So I guess she was okay about it. It didn't seem to affect the rest of our evening!! Yuckkkkko.
Wimp out? No, I dont see it that way at all bob. The kids are always first, and your head did what you thought was right to protect them.
Sounds like your lady friend is understanding and special!

Bob,
you aren't wrong, you just haven't recovered from the D, and until you can walk in there with your head held high, and know you are a better person that the X, you haven't full recovered. but you give your XW too much control over your life, where and when you can be seen.
I realize its hard, but keep working at being able to say hi, see the kids, and go about your business.
That will in time get easier, but don't think yourself as a wimp, I think of it as very sensitive, and very caring about others, especially your kids.
thl

Hey Bob,
I don't think you wimped out.
David and I try to be very respectful of each other re: the new person in our lives(or in his case the old person - gosh, I just can't seem to get past the bitterness some days! [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com] )... but anyway, things like phone calls when the other is around (like he's here visiting the kids, etc.) and talking about the new person in each other's presence. I think it's just easier all the way around not to mix it all up.
I think you did the right thing, and I'm glad your friend understood.
