What kind of gift do you get someone you have been dating only a few months. (It's a guy.) I am looking for a personal gift, not overly intimate, but original and thoughtful. I don't want to freak him out, but I want him to know that he is sort of special and that I was thinking of him for the holidays. Nothing generic like cologne or a sweater vest. Yuck.

Well, not knowing what he's interested in makes it a little difficult. Fine German sports sedans are always welcome in my stocking ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
Seriously, what are some of his interests or hobbies. You can usually find something small that goes along with what his interests are.
Take care...
------------------
nick
it's only time that heals the pain and makes the sun come out again

Taking Nick's suggestion a step further... if there is an interest you both share (sport, concert, cooking) get something you can do together...
If he is into golf.. some personalized club covers and a pass for a round of golf for 2 (so he will take you).
Tickets (for you both) to see his favorite group, team, play.... and a bottle of wine.

How about a throw (blanket) in his favorite team's colors, a couple of bags of microwave popcorn, a 6 pack & an IOU for some hotdogs.
IF he likes to cook.... some kitchen utensiles & a cooking class. Or maybe a "Kiss the Cook" apron... ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif)
If he likes to look at the stars.... a filter or other gadget for his telescope, a blanket & a bottle of wine... and a promise to take him out to look at the constilations.
Just some ideas.... lot's of things you can have with, and combine into a together activity, that don't have to be really expensive.
If you have a specific interest in mind, and need some help.... let me know. I love to do stuff like this!

Does he smoke cigars? A fine box of cigars is always a nice gift for those who partake in them.
Does he like sports? A particular one and team? A sports jersey is always nice as well.
My advice is to find out what his favorite hobby is - then find a gift that has something to do with his hobby, but that he would never think to buy for himself! Here it will be the thought that goes into the gift that counts!
Mike

I agree about knowing his hobbies and interests. Sometimes the smallest, most inexpensive gifts mean the most.

Deep sea fishing, boats/boating, working on his house. Not a big sports freak; doesn't smoke cigars, though that is a great idea for another friend's husband--thanks! I try to listen for things he likes, but I am horrible at remembering them.

hmmm, boats & houses. Nothing there that sets off any bells with me. Almost all guys like gadgets. There are some pretty cool little multi tools out there. Remmington knife stores at the malls are always a good place to lok.
------------------
nick
it's only time that heals the pain and makes the sun come out again

GSD,
ok, being a professional boater/lover,
next time you are at his place, look for his magazines, and you can get a subscription to one he doesn't have for his hobby.
Working on a house, go to Sears and just walk through the tool section to get ideas.
and of course ifyou are really stuck, a gift certificate for home tools is a last resort,
although i will tell you from a guy who has just about every little tool and thing, it all turns into a junk pile at some point, and i prefer to start receiving experiences and experience opportunities, i can always buy stuff any time i want. but i can't go get an experience with a special person anytime i want, and experiences is what brings us together, NOT STUFF!
so that is my last suggestion from a guy who has lots of STUFF!
tom

WIFTT-
Yup, I agree. I ended up buying a shirt (he said he needed clothes--yuck) and a book called Ocean Wisdom. It's a hardback book of sketches and quotes about the ocean from this guy named Wyland. He loves to snorkel and fish and surf, so I thought it would be ok. He's not the reader type, but I thought he would like it because it is somewhat personal. I hate generic gifts. I really want to take it back because I am still not satisfied.
BTW: glad to hear about your new friend! ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
