Survived the interview. Within minutes of arriving in his office, I was behind his desk looking at his PowerPoint presentations.<BR> Thinks I may be too much fun. We both might have trouble getting work done because we would sit around and talk.<P>Turns out it is more of an editorial secretary. Hey, it pays nearly twice what I'm getting now and has a myriad of benefits whereas I have NONE now.<P>But I could conceivably end up spending one day a week in the clinic gathering data from patients. <P>So, I go in Thursday to "audition" and for us to get a better feel for each other. Me of the job and whether I can work for him. And him for what my capabilities and potential are. (I have been diagnosed as an underachiever.) He thinks that, if I am as smart as he thinks, I could actually learn to conduct a clinical trial. <P>Looks like a real casual place. Actually, sort of a hole. Typical office of a medical researcher.

Well, I do have a couple of short skirts. But I don't think that's the best choice. <P>Butterfly, I really did polish my shoes. But they were black leather loafers. <P>I did notice that at some point he did glance down at my shoes, socks, something. I don't know if he had taken a trip down my legs. But the black wool crepe slacks didn't divulge too much. <P>Jayhawk - that he could be almost double my salary doesn't mean that the position pays a lot. It just means I get paid beans right now.<P>The minister I work most closely with told me that hw would love for this to work out. He then followed with a request that I keep doing my most important task here as a volunteer. I told him there was a problem. I have no computer which would allow me to do it at home. His response to that was that the church might help me out on that. Now, hmmmmm, I wonder if I can tell them what I want?<P>Meanwhile, I've never heard of having someone come in and work a day a week for a week or so in order to find out if they are the person for the job. It makes all the sense in the world. It is amazing how things do work out. But we have not yet ascertained that I want to work for them or that I'm the person they want. <P>But we are talking nearly ten hours of work a week for the church.

By the way, this job is with a rheumatologist/researcher/professor who's latest publication was in a periodical called "Advances in Mind-Body Medicine". HIs was a commentary entitled "Chalenges to the biomedical model: Are actions of patients almost as important as actions of health professionals in long-term outcomes of chronic diseases?" It's a 6 page editorial comment with 2 pages of references.

Well, I'd tell them you need a basic 1Gig system with either DSL or a cable modem, 21" monitor, etc. <P>Seriously, it sounds like you are in charge of your own destiny on this one. I do want to be able to work ondigital photography on it. I need turns of memory or the capability to add more memory. And I need a better than usual graphics card. I don't think they would need to be required to provide some of the peripherals - speakers, printer, scanner, things like that. They wouldn't be required for the church's needs. <P>I need to talk to my BIL because he runs a convention each year that has tons of PowerPoint presentations. His co-teacher is not with him this year and he doesn't want to be responsible for them. I think he needs to sub it out to me. Right? If I had the computer. He might have one he could loan me as he has several in his classroom and this is one of his school activities. <BR>Sub out those hours of PowerPoint to me. Loan me the equipment. Then I could afford the peripherals.<P>Maybe, just maybe, my luck is about to change.

Cinderella,<P>Not that it is the best option in the world, but if you need to, Gateway usually runs specials where you can pay monthly for a brand new system and can turn the system back in after 2 years (or close to that) for a brand new one. Payments are usually around $40 depending on what you get. With the new job, maybe you can swing that one or have the church look into it themselves. It could be counted as a write off for the church or for yourself if you claim it as a business expense. I'm sure you can get creative with it

I applied for a Human Resources position at Dell. Haven't heard from them. They're based in Nashville. I bet they have something like the Gateway deal. But I'm insistent that I need plenty of memory. That is a thought. Buy it and write it off. Maybe get the church to pay me enough to cover the cost. Or they might be able to front it. Do some sort of "in lieu"<BR>arrangement. And don't forget, the easiest way for me to get it back in here is e-mail. Maybe they'd even pick up my internet fee?!<P>But first I have to get the job. <P>Tomorrow is audition day #1. Don't know how many of these we'll have. I'm not too nervous about this. Excited is a better term.
