Kind of an off-the-wall question for the ladies.... I am looking to change the scent I wear Something that I used to wear was Drakkar but I have recently heard good things about Acqua Di Gio. Who wants a Old Spice kinda guy anyway?<P>My first choice is a man with a basic clean smell.....soap and water, there's nothing like it, ya know? Sure colognes are wonderful but like some ladies perfumes, boy can they overpower!!! You can just see the cloud of scent hanging over them. But when he did, I was on him like a duck on a junebug. <P>The man I dated this summer wore Chanel for Men which I really liked. And he did wear it subtly. Something new I've smelled is Angel for Men. Has no flowers. Chocolate, patchoulli, raspberries, vanilla. It is not as "vivid" as Angel for women. They are distinct fragrances.<P>A well-dressed, well-groomed, good smelling guy. That's such a delicious thought. Where can I find one?

Mike!<P>You are killing me! <P>I have to confess that I absolutely LOVE the scent of a man, and thus, I am very much aware of the cologne a man does or does not wear.<P>Some men are lucky and have a naturally good smelling personal scent. I know this is going to sound strange, but that's the scent a person has when they are clean but have no cologne or other artificial scent applied. If you have a pretty decent personal scent, the best thing you can do is find a soap that compliments your personal scent and stick with it. For example, I like Lever2000, because it cleans without adding too much of a soap-cologne smell, yet it does enhance a person's natural scent.<P>If you must or think you should wear cologne, I would suggest sampling some before you buy. Here's why: each person has a different body chemistry, and although Acqua Di Gio smells great on one guy with compatible body chemistry, it may clash with your body chemistry. The point of adding cologne, or any scent, is to compliment your own manly smell, so it should also be compatible with the scent you already create. <P>I agree with Ragamuffin--go to a finer department store and ask what some of the more popular scents are. Smell a couple at the counter until you have two or three that YOU like. Then sample those scents, one at a time. Smell them when they first are placed on your body, smell them a couple of hours later, and smell them at the end of the day because that's when your natural scent will have blended (or not) the most with the cologne. If you need help, ask someone you trust to smell for you (like your mom--haha), but I bet when you smell the cologne at the end of the day, you'll know the one that enhances your own natural fragrance. <P>Have fun with this! <P><BR>CJ<P>------------------<BR>Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

Oh... yummy topic <P>My personal prefrence is a fresh, clean "outdoorsy" scent. I agree with everyone, whatever you chose, make sure it's not overpowering. Personally, I like to be able to snuggle up to a guys neck and still be able to breath. <P>Now, if I could just find a nice, good smelling guy to snuggle up to!

Thanks everyone for your advice. I just think that I haven't found the scent that goes along with me yet - So often when I try one, it wears off, very quickly. To compensate I usually have to apply a fair amount before going out, but then everyone needs to stay away from me for about an hour <P>I'm not one for the fruity natural scents - they don't seem to fit "me". Keep in mind that I am about 6'3" - 220 lbs. So for me to walk around smelling like a rasberry might not work <P>I tend to stray more towards the musk types of scent. That is one of the reasons I might try the Acqua dio - It is more masculine of a scent, but not as strong as Drakkar....<P>I went to the counter of a higher end store about 5 months ago to sample some scents. And yes I did talk to the woman there - Unfortunately she was quite attractive and unfortunately I get quite nervous in those "initial meeting" types of situations . I let her talk me into a scent that I ended up not liking at all. If you find some fragrances you like, see if they have sample dispensers they might give you. Normally the "dry down" time on a fragrance is at least 20-25 minutes, so it will take you that long for the alcohol, etc. to evaporate and for you to be able to smell the true scent. So, get some samples and find someone willing to do a sniff test. Remember, though, that you can only differentiate a few fragrances at a time. No more than 3. On pulse points. Try one on each wrist. I know that's not where men usually wear fragrance but the body heat is good there. And try the neck. They'll be spread out far enough that they shouldn't influence the test-sniffer too much.

ST2....here's a site that might help you some although I'm not sure if men's fragrances are described. One of my favorite perfumes is Diorella which is described as Chypre-fresh. When I'm looking of a new scent I start with the ones that have a basic smell...chypre-fresh.... that is similar to one I know I already like and smells great on me. back from spring training for a weekend,<P>Isn't the best answer the impossible one? the one that the prospective person likes? how do you prevent your liking one scent and not repelling potential possibilities? or are the variations so small that just smelling nice is adequate?<P>Now in the locker room after a game, we just shower, powder and leave, not many smells on my team.<P>sportsguy

Great topic!<P><BR>One of the first things I did when my Ex moved out was go and buy new smells. She was a big fan of "Pleasures" for men (Estee Lauder). Needless to say I didn't get that!<P>The two I wear most often now are totally different from each other. Hugo (Hugo Boss) is the night-on-the-town smell. Most days I wear "Pi" by Givenchy...kind of vanilla-ish.<P>Usually I go in with a good idea of what I want, and they always give out 2 or 3 samples of different brands. That's how I found out about Pi.
