I found this article (it's quite long) and as I skimmed it, I noticed uncanny similarities between the 'typical' emotional abuser and my STBX.
emotional_abuse.shtml
Every day I am more convinced that I did the right thing in leaving. I know there are those who disagree, but ...
[This message has been edited by T-L-C (edited March 29, 2001).]

You need to replace the asterisks with the word for a female dog.
This is actually pretty good, although I am having some trouble with the use of pronouns. Not only men can be abusers. My stbx exhibits all of these behaviors, but then again, so have I in our years together.
I guess the difference is that I am (was)willing to forgive and do some work and she wasn't...
[This message has been edited by grandpabri (edited March 29, 2001).]

One of the downfalls of this particular site is a tendency to lean towards the feminist side. I don't go for that 'women are better than men' cr*p any more than I think 'women are inferior to men' ... but this article nailed the STBX in so many ways. Why did I stay so long?
Me too sweetie, me too!
I tell my friends some of the things that happened... things I'd either kept to myself or forgotten (by that I mean that my kids have told me, and then it was backed up by a friend who remembered) and they say... WHY, WHY, WHY did you wait so long?
Because I loved the a**hole, that's why.
And... his good points were REALLY good... but those bad ones...
...sigh...
I understand TLC.
------------------
~Sheryl
(a bit worse for the wear, but hanging in there)
Life is difficult.
The Road Less Traveled
~M.
