After reading several posts from WIFTT about personality types I thought I would check it out.
Wow INFP all the way. That description on personalitytype.com was pretty much me in a nutshell.
What stuck me the most was when they said that INFP tend to project the romantic ideal onto the person they are in a relationship with. I thought about this awhile and feel that I have been doing this for awhile.
Last night I was feeling sad and said out loud to myself, why do I still miss him? But I then stopped and said is it him I really miss or the romantic ideal of him I miss? I'm sure more of the latter. It was a very healing moment for me. The beginning of letting go......?
Well once again he had shown up unexpectedly so I'd better go. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]

I wrestled with that question too for a little bit and the conclusion I came to was that I miss the man he was to me and don't at all miss the man he became at the end. I've compartmentalized him nicely and it's helped.
I don't have any romantic ideals about what our relationship was, it wasn't a torrid love affair or anything of that nature. Rather it was a very comfortable, honest, affectionate relationship between two people who understood each other well...perhaps too well. After all familiarity breeds contempt.
In light of what I know to be the truth about our relationship(divorced from the trauma of the last few months)I still cannot fathom why it went as it did. He did completely lose it and changed. Almost like temporary insanity for us both.

Well, I'm not an INFP, I'll check it out but I think I'm ESTP/J... but I too tend to project the romantic ideal onto my H. I was out for a coffee with an old friend and he said, "Is it your H you miss or the romanticized positions he was supposed to hold in your life as H and father of your children." Wow, now that hit me between the eyes!
I'm going to go check out that site... though I've been online for a while and feel like a break!
Cheers!
------------------
We cannot do everything at once... but we can do something at once
