I wish I had some advice to give, but I did some research on that song, and I've got bad news:

That song is currently number 4 on Radio & Records' Top 40 chart, up from number 6 last week, so that's a bad sign for you! R & R monitors how many times a song has been played nationwide, so that song is huge right now. There isn't much that you could do to stop a station from playing it, so you'll just have to turn off the radio every time it comes on, at least until it falls off the charts.
You could call and complain to the program director, but that probably wouldn't help. You see, radio stations base their airplay on research. Requests and record sales are only part of the equation. Every station (at least the ones in the bigger markets) conducts "call out" research on every song they play. The stations, or more accurately, the stations' research department, makes hundreds of phone calls to listeners every week. If you agree to participate in the survey, they play snippets of the songs over the phone and ask you to rate them. The station compiles the data from hundreds or even thousands of calls every week, to judge how their songs are "testing" with potential listeners.
Uncle Kracker is probably testing about 80 percent positive now, with very litte "burn" (whether or not people are tired of the song). It will probably start to burn in about 6 weeks or so, but they won't yank it off the air unless it starts to test about 40 percent negative.
You'll just have to be patient, and wait till it goes away on its own. Just like the fog!
Sorry I couldn't be more help... [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]

Cjack,
Wow! I didn't know that there was all that involved!!! Thank you for doing the research, it means a lot to me.
I'll just have to wait for it to go away. It's an EVIL song. I'll try to be more polite to my raido and just turn it off instead of beating it. [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]
You did help a lot! Thanks again!! I like the sound of the music to the song, but when I listened to the words, I was not happy either! That and Shaggy's "It wasn't me".
Oh well, thats all there is to write about for songs is love and cheating. I just try not to listen to the radio, or change the channel when I hear it.
My 3 year old kept listening to Shaggy's cheat song at her dad's (nice guy huh), and she was singing "banging on the bathroom floor" over and over. So I know how a song can get under your skin.
I heard the guy sang a few songs on a few movies and thats it, maybe he'll just be a one hit wonder and the song won't last too long.

This may not be a popular response but......
I know that song is hard to hear sometimes, however, I really do enjoy its sound. The melody is very soothing. One of the stances also says a lot to me about the long-term significance of the "other" person sometimes:
I won't give you money I can't give you the sky
You're better off if you don't ask why
I'm not the reason that you go astray
And we'll be alright if you don't ask me to stay
Now I'm not condoning infidelity in any way, but how many times have we heard that relationships which start off between a WS and OP rarely work out? Also, infidelity is not the cause of problems in a marriage, it's the symptom. I think Uncle Kracker captures that element in the song.
I also like Shaggy's song (sorry Dana....), but again, I enjoy the sound and really have found humor in it. Think about it, you have a guy who has been caught "red-handed" with another woman and yet he STILL denies it. I take it to mean that if the cheating spouse is not ready to admit to the affair, they won't admit it. Period. I do agreee that the song is not really meant for "young" ears.
BTW, Shaggy has a few more hits than just this one, but probably doesn't have that much chance at longevity. Of course, that's just my uninformed opinion [Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]

[This message has been edited by Jayhawk 93 (edited May 09, 2001).]
