My husband and I recently separated after 12 years of marriage. We are trying to raise our very young children without going through the usual results of divorce or separation, i.e.: having the kids see each parent at the parent's separate home.
The children think that Daddy is on a business trip, and comes home on weekends. In reality, he lives in our second home, and comes to "my" home on the weekends to be with the children. Sometimes, I am out of the house for the evening or during the daytime; sometimes, he and I are home together with the kids. During the warmer months, I imagine we would take the children on outings together, such as the zoo.
As you can see, we are working very hard at forging a new relationship for the two of us based on friendship.
Are there others out there who have decided to take this avenue? I would love to hear your experiences. In addition, this situation is sure to be complicated if and when one of us becomes involved with someone on a committed level. Any feedback on that aspect?
