Does anyone know if there is a statute of limitations in regards to child support? I have a friend who was married and she has since divorced. Their son is now 22 years old. She has never filed for child support and was wondering if she can get some kind of assistance in helping with her son's college expenses. Thanks for your help... ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)

The Laws are diffrent state to state...Sometimes you can go back and collect child support from previous years, but Laws change all the time and it is state to state. Some States will not hold a parent responsible towards any college. She really needs to speak to someone if money is low check phone book for low income services or even support groups have info..where to get legal aid....
Sincerely Cheryl

http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/cse/
This link might give some general info, but not positive.
As far as I know, the laws vary by state. I honestly don't know what a judge would think of this person never asking for help before, and now, all of a sudden wanting help with college.
In some cases, the child might get better financial aid from no help anyhow.
Also, as far as I knew, child support is until the child is 18, then "can" continue if the child is then in college. I don't know that a child can just go to college at 22 and go after support after a long period of time.
Good luck, Dana
I could directly go and file for support my father did not pay from the age of 13-18, but a warrant had been outstanding for years in New York State..... I do know now in PA. If My children decide to go to college My Husband is not responsible in any way.......The Laws change daily and yes State to State.......
