I do see why you seem to touch all of us in the ways you do. After reading what you just posted about the music you love, I can see that you are really opinionated (in a good sense) and very liberated. I know that growing up in a Christian home, I wasn't allowed to listen to any secular music at all. I'm into weird stuff these days that people hate (Barry Manilow and Jim Brickman) but reading your opinions and takes on music and groups tells a great deal about you. I do appreciate the hard talks you have given me, and just as much - I appreciate your tenderness and sensative nature. I guess your music tastes really do reflect the real you. Thanks for all the inspiration you give me!
Peggy

I only have a quick second, but I'll write more later. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Barry Manilow. He's an awful singer and all, but he sings totally smooshy romantic songs straight from the heart. "Ships that Pass in the Night" brings tears to my eyes!
Okay, it's hokey, I know, but I am beyond hopeless romantic--maybe just plain hopeless.
CJ
P.S. More later--after dinner, dishes, and putting the kids to bed!
------------------
Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

LivinginLimbo,
You know what? You TOTALLY made my day. I've been here at MB for a long time, and I post on a couple of forums, but no one has ever made a post just for me to say "Thank you". WOW! (blushing modestly) heehee
Anyway, thanks for your kind words. I'm so glad that you took my words in the way that they were intended, which is as a opportunity to see how painful it is from the other side. I don't want to hurt people (actually I hate that), but sometimes the best way to do that is to tell them the real truth now. I don't want to hurt you either, but I was hoping that maybe hearing how it is for me (no holds barred) might help you see how it is for him.

CJ
------------------
Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

Yes CJ, You are a very sensitive, special and tender woman who touches many of us each and every day ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)

Ok, not that I would ever admit this in public or anything, but I am a true closet Neil Diamond fan ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/blush.gif)
....maybe it is just a Jewish thing?
Actually, my music tastes are all over the board. I have upwards of 400 CD's ranging from Bach to Metallica to Garth Brooks, to various Celtic artists, rap, rock, opera, swing, new age and even a few showtunes! Now what does this possibly say about the real me?

Nah- the Neil Daimond thing is not just a Jewish thing.
You know, I couldn't figure out why I love drumming. Then I had a conversation with my mother. It seems that it is highly likely that her great-grandfather was black. So that explains why I love dancing to drumming. Maybe. Why I feel some of that stuff down to the core of my soul.
And I do love a good torch song. After all, the other night, when the main squeeze and I were dancing and Elton John was singing that song about "Daniel is leaving tonight on a plane" and we knew I was leaving the next day, I just broke down and cried. You just never know.
Jayhawk, are you familiar with Bruce Cockburn (sounds like Coburn)? He is one man who is NOT afraid to show his politics and opinions in his lyrics. I think his line in 'Pacing the Cage' about "Sunset is an angel weeping, holding out his bloody sword" is such a graphic image.
Who knows why we like what we like.
Well, now I don't feel so bad about my England Dan & John Ford Coley CD. The Air Supply one still scares me though ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif)
Seriously CJ, I guess you always knew how we felt about our MB "mom". You have helped so many people on this forum (especially me) that we probably took for granted that you would know.
You are an incredibly special person. And you've helped me more than you will ever know, with your sage advice & your cyberhugs...
{{{{{{{{{{CJ}}}}}}}}}}
------------------
nick
it's only time that heals the pain
and makes the sun come out again

Whoah...hold on there! Look, people, I'm alright talking about addiction, sexual perversion, and human suffering, but let's keep kinky things like Air Supply concerts out of this! Really! (Twice?)
Okay, now that no one is listening any more...I'll go next time with you, JH.
Let's see...I had/have the following:
The Knack - Get The Knack....I was 17...try to explain that one to your AC/DC friends!
Huey Lewis & the News - had two, or three of them!
Olivia Newton John...don't even remember the name...just had it next to my Farrah Fawcett poster!
Oh, and I had all of the Monkees' albums...there were half a dozen or so...you have not lived until you've heard Mickey Dolenz sing 'Zor and Zam', or 'I'm Gonna Buy Me a Dog'.
I won't even get into the CDs I got from Columbia House for not mailing in that stupid card. YUCK!
What is this...confession?
I went to the most awesome "big hair" concert when I was a kid: AirSupply was the headliner, and guess who the opening act was?

Come on--guess!

R E O Speedwagon!! No kidding!! Ya talk about big hair and smooshy, drippy love songs. It was at Milwaukee County Stadium, too, so there for 65,000 smooshy fans.

I too have Huey Lewis and the News songs, and I have seen them in concert too--well actually it was at Summerfest in Milwaukee before they were anybody--it was the summer BEFORE that one movie with Michael J. Fox (haha). Anyway, I'm sitting here now looking at my Huey "Sports" CD, so I guess I'm so square that I'm hip, huh?

CJ

------------------
Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

OK, 2 Air Supply concerts I could attribute to youth and indiscretion, but... Milli Vanilli?....
I was sure true Jayhawks had more sense than to fess up to that one....
...takes a true Rock Chalk Set to own up to something like that one in public... ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif)
"gutsiest move I ever saw..."
------------------
nick
it's only time that heals the pain
and makes the sun come out again

Yes, I know….it took some major cahoones to admit to the Milli Vanilli CD, but that’s just how us Kansas men are!
Actually though, I ordered MV through Columbia House as one of my “free” selections. Then, MV was busted for being frauds and the court forced them to return a portion of all record sales back to the customers. I was mailed a check for something like $3!!! When you look at it that way, I was actually paid to add MV to my collection!
Nice movie quote btw, Nick ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif)
Okay, this really dates me to all you "youngsters", but as a pre-teen, my mom bought me an album of Richard Chamberlain (remember Dr. Kildare?) singing love songs. I listened to it over and over with the cover propped up by my little box record player so I could stare at him. That had to have been my worst.
