Nina, I've checked with some attorneys today and first, they had more questions than answers, although I suspect none of them really have an answer anyway. As I told you, this is beyond my area of expertise. I'm just a country lawyer in central Ohio and these issues don't come up. Every now and then we deal with the Hague Convention when it comes to custody, but we also have a U.S. citizen involved. I've never done. I though we had an attorney that did, but he co-counseled with a hotshot big city attorney. Couldn't find original post so I had to do a new one for you. Hope on the other matter you are feeling better! So sorry, but I tried. I have theories but that is based on state to state actions, not different countries. I did a divorce for a guy from Vietnam once with his wife still living in Vietnam, but he was a citizen here. It was different, but not anything like you're talking about. My guess is you could find someone who knows. One source might be your embassy in the country you're now in. Lee
