Hi - I've been advised in counseling to seriously explore the options for a legal separation as part of plan B. There are lawyers in the phone book and Martindale site, but I don't know how to pick a good one and have heard some horror stories.
Does anyone have good or bad experience with specific lawyers in the Pittsburgh area, particularly, in understanding the logic of plan B? Custody rights for fathers will also be an important issue for me.
Thanks for any advice,
Tom

I filed for divorce last Tuesday and I live in the Pittsburgh area. I can't give you any direction on a good divorce attorney because I have no children involved and basically my divorce should be a straight shot, no problems, no court. My attorney told me that there is no such thing as a legal separation. He told me that the day my H left, was the day the separation started.
Can you contact the legal counsel of Pittsburgh or the Lawyer Referral Service? Most lawyers will give you a free consultation on your rights.

I know of no specific lawyer in your area but when you talk to them (make sure you check out a few) mention that it is very important that your rights are protected as a father. You will live with this decision for a long time so it must be handled properly.
Karenna over on the EN boards mostly, is a lawyer who specalizes in fathers rights issues, unfortunatly she practices in Calif. She does have a web site that may be helpful and I think you could ask her what to look for in a good lawyer so that you can be helped. Try posting a message on here for Karenna. She is busy but she may reply to your post, as this is her specialty.
Good luck
Randy
