dabigtrain,
Well... I was from the "soutside" of Milwaukee.. close the Mitchell field.
Yes, Serb Hall fish frys...John Hawks Pub, Yep I've done all that too. Do you remember 10cent beer night back in the old days at County Stadium... i always went with my grandpa to the Brewers games.
I was married a Wauwatosa Community Chapel and had My wedding reception at the Wauwatosa Womens Club. My Aunt ran a Jewish Deli up on North Ave....
Out where I'm at, no ones knows about...bubblers...stop and go lights and just having a glass of soda. Heck when I first moved here, I walked up to the deli at the grocery store and told the gal I wanted a pound of hot ham and a dozen rolls. She asked me at least 4 times what I was talking about !!
You can add.."@hotmail.com" after my name.
Blessings,
s
Such a small world....

OK, we're officially taking over this thread.

quote:
Originally posted by scoick:
Do you remember 10cent beer night back in the old days at County Stadium...

You mean like, when you could go up to the beer stand with a $10 bill and say "I'd like to buy section 124 of the lower grandstand a beer?" Oh, those were the days.

quote:
I was married a Wauwatosa Community Chapel and had My wedding reception at the Wauwatosa Womens Club.

You mean, the Women's Club across the street from Tosa East High School, where my brother teaches history? The Women's Club three blocks away from my family's home, just off the Menomonee River Parkway?
It sure is a small world. The "hot ham and a dozen rolls" story made me laugh out loud, literally- my co-workers just asked what's so funny.
Many years ago, I visited a then-girlfriend in Charleston, SC. Played tennis with her brother on hotter-than-hades day. We ran out of water in a jug we'd brought; I said, "well, there must be a bubbler around here somewhere." He looked at me funny, and drawled "That must be one of them northern words."
Thanks for the memories. Take care,
Barry
[ October 22, 2001: Message edited by: dabigtrain ]

dabigtrain ...
Yep, that would be the one!! We could only have wine served at our reception due to the school right across the street and you know those weddings back there.
I also have several relatives that belong to St. Helen and Constatine (sp)Greek Orthodox church. I always did the "tosa" area.
I worked at the Milw Journal/Sentinel for about 4 years years...(early college). I loved working there... all college students from Marquette, UWM and MATC. After work it was off to Major Goolsbys(sp)for drinks... remember... the legal drinking age was 18 back then. In fact I volunteered for the FIRST ever Al's run... Had a hoot...
Yes... those were the disco years !! LOL I went to Park Avenue disco place downtown...
NO ONE HERE gets the friday night fish fry and a few beers thing.... boy that was fun... my uncle used to be a host at Serb Hall. The last time I went back home, I was shocked to see they ahd a drive up.... as well as the Packing House on Layton avenue. Two years ago, I was back there for a month for my moms heart surgery... I had a fish fry every friday !!!
You betcha I did.... Yummmm
And one more thing.... Custard stands...Leons, Gillies etc....
ok thats enough.... Now I want a brat and a beer and its only 1050 am....
Have a great day.....
S

Losthusband,
The way the huskers played last Saturday night I think you are right about the bus getting lost!
Ok, you are somewhere in Kansas that is so small they don't even list it in the atlas! What's up with that?!?! Somewhere around Salina right? Near I-81? If you took I-81 north turn west on Hwy 6 in Nebraska look for a town of 22,000 that'd be where I am!
We are "wheat heads in common", my birth place was Topeka, KS!
Gayle

I find that hard to believe. Named after Thomas Eugene Scott a sheep herder from Wisconsin. From Salina go 10 Miles North and 10 Mile West....
Now as for your riddle I'm gonna say that the town you live in starts with an H and ends with an S.
So you're a Jayhawker by birth and a Husker by choice.... What a sad sad story...... Oh well, you're still young you still have a chance to resist the dark side. I guess I can't say much about the Huskers, HOW ABOUT THOSE WILDCATS....

Sorry Jacky to get off the subject but as I was catching up on where everyone was from, I noticed a lot of "team trash talk" going on.
I got to thinking that this sports thing could be my reason for a bad day....
My teams are (and still are - I'm loyal)
College Football - Clemson ( got the snot beat out of them by a B-ball school)
MLB - Atlanta Braves ( who didn't even show up for the series)
NFL - Carolina Panthers ( who got beat by the Redskins, yikes!)
NASCAR - Jeff Gordan ( if it wasn't for that nasty pileup - who have finished 19th)
and I wondered why I couldn't sleep last night!
PP

My best friend growing up was from Lincoln so he sold me on those corn fed boys up North....
But just for fun I'd put a cup of coffee on the game and I'll even take K-state with no points..... Jacky!!!! JACKY!!!!!
So what Kansas and Nebraska aren't on your map therefore not making it to your tally. OK open up your map, go directly to the middle of the US. See that flat thing? That's Kansas. Now move your finger up STOP!!!! Don't go to far, OK that's Nebraska. So Ragamuffin and I don't feel like outsiders, COULD YOU PLEASE ADD US TO YOUR TALLY????
BTW you know I wouldn't give you this much grief if I didn't luv ya like a sister.......
