Perhaps I've posted this in the wrong area, but I have two problems-one, I have a very difficult time feeling close or in love with my wife, and the other problem is the anxiety that generates (which may be more of the problem than the first issue.)
I met her 16 yrs ago, and although I wasn't head over heels about her, I was drawn to her like no one else. I just wanted to be with her, and I still feel that way. Two months after meeting her, I began to feel guilty over some of the sexual behavior we engaged in(short of intercourse.) After one date in particular, I went home to bed and woke up feeling very guilty about my behavior and felt perhaps I shouldn't see her anymore. This produced a bad internal struggle, which led me to conseuling for about five years. The conseulor quickly diagnosed my problem as a fear of intimacy, and I can see what he's talking about. The conseuling didn't help with the intimacy issues (all it did was provide a method to deal with the anxiety), yet I married her about a year and a half into the conseuling partly based upon my enjoyment of her and partly from being "brow-beaten" by my parents. Trust me, I know how bad this sounds!
Meanwhile, I've struggled with feeling close (i.e. "in love") with her ever since. We get along great, and we have three beautiful children together. I've always wondered if my diagnosis was correct, and is there any hope for me? Has anyone else ever experienced a similar problem? Thanks in advance.
[This message has been edited by Freddy_P (edited August 24, 1999).]
