I think, as grownups, we never get asked what we want for Christmas. And as a broke, single mom, I could probably work up a serious list.
So, I think the time has come for us to post our Christmas lists. These must be material things. I know there are lots of people who say they don't want anything except happiness, peace, etc. Come on, get with me here, and stretch your imagination. Ed McMahon, however you spell it, just might come to your house soon.
So, if money were no object, what would you want Santa to bring you for Christmas? Or for someone to give you for Hanukkah?

I'm being excruciatingly materialistic here - I want a six bedroom house - a housekeeper - a cook - a gardener - and a Ford Excursion - NEW furniture - and a secretary. (And a new computer is included in there - my computer keeps zapping.)
Those are on my Christmas wish list. For the real things - I'd really enjoy having enough to take the kids to the mountains for a week right after Christmas this year - they could really use a break and me too... But, since none of the above will happen - and the trip to the mountains isn't likely (I have work to finish after Christmas) I guess I'll just have to tough it out and enjoy the holidays with family and friends and no special outings... Like that's gonna hurt me...
I do love Christmas - I'm determined to someday get everything on my list.
Jan

80-200 mm. lens for my Canon Rebels
metal 35-135 mm Nikkor lens for my Nikon FA
well-stocked darkroom with an enlarger that will do both color and B&W
amethyst ring that fits my left hand
bottle of Chanel No. 22 cologne or eau de toilet
bottle of Angel cologne
bottle of Obsession cologne
my cat, Candy, back home
frame for 20x24 portrait of my children and me
more photography supplies
Braun or Krups cordless mixer similar to the Black & Decker ones I keep wearing out
Rosie, the robotic maid on the Jetsons
new house that x never lived in with my next dooor neighbors next door to me
newer, less problematic car
good tripod for cameras
White Lightning photography lights and related accessories
stocking full of $100 bills so I can pay off all my debts - including the house - but if I got the new house as a gift from Santa, I wouldn't have to pay for it, could sell the one I have and pay off the debts
That will have to do for now. I'll have more later, I'm positive
This is a pie-in-the-sky list. Totally unrealistic. I know that. It's a major dream list.
[ December 10, 2001: Message edited by: cinderella ]

Not to get all sentamental or anything on this light hearted thread but I am a very simple person. Sure I could wish riches to cure my financial woes but the struggle I'm in now is making me a better person. Sure I could wish for a CASTLE of my own but the little place I live in now is HOME. So honestly I can think of no material things that would bring me any happiness, except maybe some socks my dryer seems to be eating all them....
So what do I want for Christmas. All I want is the same present I've gotten for the last 12 years. I want a stary eyed child to jump on my bed at 5:00am shouting for me to get up. I want to see the amazement in their eyes as they peer over what Santa has left. I want to see their smiles brighten up the entire house. I want all three of them to run to me at the same time screaming for me to help them get something working first.
Sadly this year I will see my girls on Christmas eve only and not again until New Years Eve so I guess my present will be a belated one. I'll still get these things it will just be a little different.
And right now I want these tears to disappear for I am so blessed to have my three little miracles.
Sorry Princess, but that is all that I want, nothing more, nothing less......

(((((((((((((((Bill)))))))))))))))
I wish I could show up with some tissues for you.
Maybe I should edit this thread or whatever I can do to make it go away. I didn't mean to dredge up sadness and pain.

My Princess, this thread is just fine. I'm having to work through this Holiday season an hour at a time.
Please know that 90% of the tears I shed these days are tears of joy. Just thinking of my angels can bring tears to eyes and this is not something that is new. I mean it when I say that I am so blessed. Sure I don't look forward to the silence that awaits me Christmas morning but it's something that I will deal with.
Actually I'm thinking of a way to get Santa there before they leave on x-mas eve. I was thinking of taking them out to look at lights and while I'm gone have someone come over and set it up. What do you think of that???/

Seriously - that's a wonderful idea.
My x and I live in the same town. And we worked it out to where we split Christmas day every year. I get the morning and he gets the rest of the day. It works for us but we do have an unusual visitation arrangement.
As for your idea. Go for it!!!!
(P.S. - I am not really a money grubbing, materialistic, shallow person. That list is just everything I could think of that I would like to have. Besides more time. I have learned to live very simply and there are only 3 things on that list that are tops on my want/need list and 2 of them I can do without. The car needs to happen in the next year.
What I really want and need is a start date on my new job. I can't believe this stalling but I understand. But Santa can't do anything about that.)

Actually one of the reasons this year is so difficult is because X is leaving for Iowa first thing Christmas morning. We only live like 15 miles apart and as of now she is unwilling to let me come get the girls for an hour that morning. I'm still going to keep working the issue but if I'm unseccessful I guess I'll just file it away for next year when it's my year. Of course, me always looking out for the kids interest, I'll cave and let her some get them because it's the right thing to do.
Sometimes I really hate being a nice guy. It seems like I just keep getting screwed without ever getting ........ We'll just leave it at that..

I asked our son what he really wanted it was to be just one gift & he wanted the gamecube game system, I had to charge it & 1 game, STBX gives me enough to pay the bills but nothing is left over. MY biggest wish is to spend xmas in Jax fl, with my older son & mom, its been 17yrs since I could do that, STBX had to have xmas with his family in AL. since we were married. SO I guess you could say Gas money is what santa could bring me if not, using the BP card sounds great.
A-jan 2001 D-pending M-17yrs C-12yr,28,gd7yrs old MOW-10yrs OWD-pending OW-small children

Anna, How is it that both you and STBX are both jobless at the same time and why do you want him to get one before you do? Just curious.
As to my list: If we are truly being wishful!
A Mercedes convertible A decorator with no budget constraints A cruise on the Disney line with the kids - staying in the biggest suite on board
Just a start.

Just curious.

Wiffle,
Well, the reason we are both out of work at the same time is because we owned our own company. I could no longer work for the company. It was also struggling due to things occuring during the year beyond our control, such as major corporate mergers affected it. We closed our company when we decided to divorce. Thus leaving us both without jobs.
As for why I'd want him to get a job first, this is more for selfish reasons.
1. I see him going in a deep depression. He's the children's father. Not working, losing his family and everything compiled is really putting a burden on him. Men need to work to feel good about themselves. I want him to get it together at least for the children's sake, also I don't want to see anyone hurting like he seems to be hurting. I still care.
2. If I were to get a job first, I think this would make him more depressed. Not good. I think he'd feel more worthless. He's very competitive, I think he'd consider this some how a huge loss to him. Even though were divorced I see where he wants to still be the breadwinner.
3. Also, I need his child support to help pay my bills. If I got a job and he doesn't, there would only be my income. He makes more than me. I need his child support with my income to survive. However, the combined unemployment and the child support would be enough to get me through for a longer period. Whereas, my job alone would not be enough.
It's all about the best way to survive. There are so many reasons as to why it would be best...just trying to think logically.
Thanks for asking.
BTW, How are you holding up?
Take care,
ANNA
p.s. I don't like the way I worded this so I edited. I am on my way out and did a quick job. c'ya
[ December 10, 2001: Message edited by: Anna2000 ]

Gee, I am a lucky woman. Materially, I have everything I could ever want--seriously. If I wanted something, I could go out and buy it. So, to be honest, "things" aren't really what I want for the holidays.
I want to spend time with my D where she looks at me like she did at the Bronco game this weekend--we went by ourselves (girls' night out) to a GUY thing, and it was fun to eat brats and scream "Defense"!
I want to spend time with my S where he looks at me like he did tonight when he opened his present (a hanukkah beany-baby bear) and held it; and when I said I wasn't sure he'd like it because he's a teenager now, and he said, "Mom he's special to me because he came from you." Wahhh! He said that on his OWN!!!
And lastly, this is a fairytale wish...I wish my H would want to spend time cuddling with me and IGNORING the phone, the cell phone, work and customers because he loved me more. I wish he was glad I was part of his life and he WANTED to share himself with me.
But since Santa (or Hanukkah Harry) can't put those things in my stocking, I'd settle for a hanukkah crane from a princess. I still have your gold one displayed at my desk at work, and I look at it every day and think of you.
Here's some more stuff I like:
MUSIC!! CD's--I especially like Frank Sinatra and Righteous Brothers and Elton John and...
Perfume, I like Patchouli or Obsession
Warm fuzzy pajamas
Bath sets (bath oil, beads, bubble bath, etc.)
Homemade stuff--anything because it's made with love.
Gift certificates, because I love to shop
Tickets to ANYWHERE because I love to travel
Candles
Movies--the sappier the better
Blank journals, because I love to write
Plants
Heck--that's enough. You get the picture. BTW, thank you, your majesty for your wish list. Do you know how long presents take to get from Colorado to your state? Shall we do an experiment and report the results? heehee
CJ

Aloha all!
I feel like I have everything I really need materialistically speaking....I have been very blessed since all this happened two years ago.
The one thing I really want and that I will work towards is a trip to Ireland. I LOVE all things Irish! I'm a nut for celtic stuff! (My background is Swiss / German...but I'm sure somewhere in there a little Irishman might have snuck in....)
Anyway, that's what I really want. Oh and never have to worry about money anymore....
Aloha, Ms.O

I want:
- 17"+ LCD monitor for my computer - get rid of the ****ty Xterra I got stuck with in dv settlement, where my xww had sex with her lover (she couldn't afford it), and get a Chevy Avalanche, Nissan Maxima, or Subaru Imprezza Sport. - get my house sold so I don't have to keep paying for it. Goodbye and good riddens. I might keep that one set of stairs where they didn't have sex. - a one way ticket for my x to move somewhere far far away. - 2 new suits. I've lost so much weight... nothing fits me anymore. - home theater sound system - 42" flat plasma TV - a leatherbound set of the Lord of the Rings trilogy - ability to travel back in time and NOT marry xww.
