The "Salary theorem"
Shared by a fellow engineer<p>"Scientists will never make as much money as business officers and sales people do"<p>Proof: Based on the following two popular postulates:
"Knowledge is power"
"Time is money"<p>We know from physics that:
Power = Work / Time<p>Given the popular postulates:
Knowledge = power;
Time = money<p>We have that:
Knowledge = work / money<p>Solving for money we have:
Money = work / knowledge<p>Assuming that the amount you can work is bounded, we have that as knowledge approaches 0, money tends to infinity. Similarly, as knowledge approaches infinity, money converges to 0 regardless of how hard you work.

Conclusion: The more you know, the less money you make.<p>If you did not understand the proof of this theorem, don't worry, it means that you have a huge salary.<p>[ April 10, 2002: Message edited by: Resilient ]</p>

Man I'm underpaid because it appeared to me that this was written in Chinese.

Sadly Jo, I can completely follow that theorem. And it recently hit home---a very valued (younger) employee of mine is looking to take a job in pharma sales (to work towards a position in market analysis/product launch). One of the issues is the money that he can make.
