My X and i have been seperated for over 8 months now after she dececided to leave the relationship. She was pregnant at the time she decided to make this decision. I tried everything i could to explain the importance of me being a father to the child if she decided we should no longer be together. I offered counseling, anger managment classes, and just about everything else you could think of to better the situation we where in together. Needless to say she has decided to give up completley on our relationship and decided to void contact with me in every way possible. There where a few occasions i had to literally track her down to discuss the newborn and she threatened me a few times with the thought of me not being able to see the child. There was also an occasion where she said "I will let you be there as a father but i will call you after the baby is born." Now the whole time she has been pregnant i have had no idea what she has decided to name the baby, i have no idea of the actual expected date of birth, but i do know that the child is a girl. She told me the child would not be getting my last name, that i would not be allowed in the hospital room during the birth, that she would just call me after the baby was born. Now this has been HELL for me the last nine months and it has been eating me up inside everyday since our separation and i would never wish what i have gone through on any other person in this world no matter how evil they where. Well to make a long story short i finally decided i would call the local hospital here in my hometown and see if they had any record of her being admitted as a patient. Well come to find out she was released from the hospital on the first of this month. After finding this information out the days till that so called "Phone call" is eating away at my life. Does anyone have any advice for me. Do i try and contact her or do i start looking for a lawyer or do i just wait it out and let myself suffer another month or two. I just want her to be happy and i want to know how the birth went, i want to be a father, i want to make sure my X has everything she needs to care for the baby. I just want to be there... Please any suggestions or people with similar situations share your suggestions with me on what to do in this situation. i dont want to end up in court and i would like to avoid conflict in every way i can. I just want my child and her mother to be happy..Does this mean i stay away? Can i live with myself if i do?

RUN - Do not walk directly to an attorney's office!
I don't know if you are married, but in some states you can lose your rights as a father if you don't assert paternity soon!
You need to write down as much as you can remember all of your attempts (including names, dates, times of people who can verify your actions)that you made to see your X whiel she was pregnant and then after. Write down what she told you in response to her inquiries. You will need this all for court.
Get some legal advice ASAP!
Babies change daily and you're missing out on some incredible times and who knows when your X will come around.
Be strong and good luck.
