and I really should have left at midnight. The consequences of not doing so were pretty traumatic. Danced all evening - at least for about 3 hours. Thank you, Chubby Checker. Every woman who likes to dance owes you a debt of gratitude. You gave the world "The Twist" and now women no longer have to have a partner to dance.
I even got brave and requested my favorite slow song, "Crazy" and got to dance with Bob for the whole song with no one cutting in. Bob was a great partner. Some people were laughing at us a bit though. See, I had to hold Bob up for the entire dance. (He was a 4-1/2 foot tall Playmobil guy named 'Bob the Builder' by the organizers of the dinner dance.) Anyway, the party was great and I spent way to much money in the silent auction but you never know what you are going to successfully bid on. I wrecked the family budget for the month. But for my $125, I got:
- a glazed and fired tile my son had painted - a haircut for myself at a real salon, not Fantastic Sam's or Head's Up (a $30 value) - 2 tickets to the Ballet (a $74 value) - a $25 gift certificate to a boutique - 12 free menu items - one a month - at TCBY - 4 books on ADHD children - one written by a teacher at my son's school
Now the reason I really messed up by not leaving at noon is pretty traumatic. I was helping clean up after the band quit playing and I returned to my table to pick up my goodies and my purse. The purse was there but the goodies were gone. No one had any idea what happened to them. Couldn't find them anywhere. So I had to start going through the plastic bags of trash from the tables.
There the stuff was in the first bag. Everything. All sort of drowned by a beer or two that had been on the table and was also tossed in the bag. Everything will be ok except for the books. But they have offered to replace them.
And the glass slippers were so uncomfortable that my feet are killing me. Oh well, such is the life of a princess.

Oops!! Make that: 'the reason I really messed up by not leaving at MIDNIGHT......'
My feet still hurt.
And, after I left, I had to go by the church where I used to work - at 12:45 A.M. and deliver powerpoint presentations for the 10 A.M. worship service. I do hope I didn't smell too much like beer - didn't drink it but I did prowl through the soggy bag of goodies. I'm a wine woman. And I did run into our video guys who were there putting together a video for tonight. Obviously they had to check on who was coming in at that hour of the morning.
My son really smiled when I told him about his breakfast and movie with the math teacher. And he was truly happy that I bought the tile. My daughter wants a mother/daughter ballet date but my son wants to go, too. The show will be entitiled "Gods and Monsters."
