Hi all - the mine subsidence insurance on our house is about to lapse. I moved out and pay family support, and my wife is supposedly responsible for this bill. The risk is small but the potential loss is great. My wife is making this a test case, so I'm thinking it over.
Has anybody here suffered a financial loss because their (separated) spouse let the homeowners, flood, or similar insurance lapse? If so, how was that loss accounted for at the final settlement?
Thanks,
Tom

It is a requirement to have insurance on a house if you still have a mortgage on it.

Yes, I'm going to pay it. She did renew the regular homeowners insurance. My lawyer said we would ask for the premium at settlement, but amounts that small tend to get lost. Which is probably what my wife is thinking.
Thanks for responding.
- Tom
