Hi, this is my first post so let me introduce myself. I am 34y, married for 11 years to my wife G 33y and we have 2 children D 10y + S 8y. I have been a faithful husband and a caring father, however this has not been enough…Why, you may ask…well it has taken me all of 10 years of our relationship to finally realize what it takes to have a successful marriage. I have drastically failed in fulfilling my wife’s emotional needs. I have to blame myself for not seeing the writing on the wall and doing something about it. Last year on Sep 22nd my wife told me she wanted to leave me…I almost died. I did not see it coming and did not understand why. I do now…
I have had a difficult upbringing, myself and my sister went from home’s to home’s with our divorced mother. Step-father after Step-father with no security and little love to be found. However all of this has made me what I am today…of this I am proud. I had one ambition in life and that was to be successful at home and build a family that would never experience what I did. But nothing can prepare you and no school teaches you how to cope with marital relationships.
I have failed dismally in my relationship with my wife. We have been together for 15 years and I love her to bits and cannot bare the thought of being without her. Reality hit me 8 months ago and I wish I could turn back the clock knowing what I know now.
So where did I fail…to start there is no OW or OM in the equation. My wife is a very emotional person that has difficulties expressing her feelings verbally, she also finds it difficult to say what she is actually thinking. I, on the other hand, have no difficulty in expressing my thoughts; I do not express any emotional feelings and keep these to myself. The perfect recipe for disaster you will say…I now agree and understand the importance of emotional needs. Since D-day I have changed and become quite the opposite emotionally. I now understand the need to hear what my dear wife is actually saying and not what I think she should be saying. I blame myself dearly for not realizing this earlier and doing something about it. I wish I could turn back time and give my wife the acknowledgment and understanding she deserved rather than taking her for granted.
We have talked and talked and I have listened and listened. I do not blame her for anything and take total responsibility for failing. I have begged her for forgiveness and prayed for one more chance to prove I can be the loving and caring husband she needs and deserves. But it is too late…she no longer loves me and wants to start a new life. I am heart broken…the only thing I wanted to do in life can no longer be realized.
I feel alone in the world…I have shared this with few people. It helps a bit but I still feel the emptiness no matter how much I talk about it. And what about the children…we still have to tell them…I dread the day.
I wanted and needed to share this with you. Can I still yet get my wife to give me another chance or should I let go….easier said than done.
Desperately seeking advice…
