my ob/gyn often refers to UTI's as "honeymoonitis". it CAN be caused by having too much intercourse, or even sometimes having too much intercourse without being properly lubricated.
Drinking plenty of cranberry juice can often help in conjunction to not wearing tight clothing, and keeping yourself clean and dry after intercourse.
you could probably find some additional information on the net, or from your md.
i can sympathise with you as i often get UTI's and kidney infections, so i know the discomfort you are in. Unfortunately my problem stems from an abnormality in my kidneys.
good luck and feel better, yuki.
CDA

Yuki,
These problems can occur from sexual intercourse. I can agonize w/you as I have suffered for years w/this.
As suggested drink plenty of cranberry juice and water. Also drink water before intercourse and make sure you pee afterwards and drink water again.
My doc also gave me an antibiotic to use after sex. He said this would help ward off any problems. So far it has worked!
Go see you gyn and tell him where the problem is stemming from and see what he suggests.

I have a question maybe someone can answer because you all seem to know alot about the subject..... how is a UTI different from a yeast infection? Just wondered if maybe I am getting the 2 confused.

A UTI affects your urinary tract. You have to pee what it seems like every 5 seconds and there is a burning pain that is often referred to as a feeling of broken glass.
A yeast infection occurs in your Vagina and is usually accomapanied by a white cheesy discharge (sorry about the graphics) and is very, very itchy.

Yah. Pee right after. Every time. I would rather die than go through another kidney infection.
Yeast: add 1/2 oz of Betadine to a regular douche bag, then fill with clean warm water and douche yourself thoroughly. Rinse the bag and nozzle well. Follow with an ounce of fresh plain yogurt, with active yogurt cultures, in the douche bag with more clean fresh water and another thorough douching.
That is it. Repeat in two or three days if it threatens to come back, and keep eating yogurt every day. Using the full fat variety rather than the nonfat yogurt gives a nice soothing greasy coating that feels so good after the burning itch all the time.
THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR A BACTERIAL INFECTION.
If you don't immediately feel relief get straight to the doctor and have them check for a bacterial infection. These can be very hard even for doctors to identify and treat.

Lucky me ...I've had both. I get a yeast infection if I take an antibiotic unless I implement precautionary methods like difloucan followed by another at the end. This past summer I was hospitalized for a horrible bladder infection. My pee was straight blood. Turns out (I had a cysto), it was caused by my bladder becoming so weak that one round of anti's didn't kill it. (3 months) Thank you Lord for healing me. I was scared and the pain...still can't talk about it. If you have one...I was told straight water is best because of the sugar in cranberry juice.
[This message has been edited by Ky.lady (edited June 08, 2000).]

i know this topic is a few days old now, but i hope you ladies read this. my W of 10 years now has had trouble with UTI for as long as we've been close, and there are three things that prevent it.
1. pee right after. absolutely a necessity. necessary to the point of her drinking a couple of glasses of water before, just to be sure she can.
2. lots of cranberry juice, yes it works. it tends to flush the kidneys, and the tracts.
3. i must be clean. reasonably freshly bathed and specifically clean anywhere i come in contact with her near there. this includes washing hands (especially under fingernails) and brushing my teeth for obvious(?) reasons.
this is serious business, as UTI can become kidney infection quickly, and her troubles being prone to UTI almost cost us our marriage due to my frustration at being able to be intimate with her without causing her pain.
i know the necessity of being freshly washed can reduce the spontenaety, but it is something that just has to be dealt with.
I have had frequent UTIs in the past. There are now a number of products available in drugstores (ask pharmacist if you can't find them) that will help ease the symptoms. I also once had a wonderful doctor who gave me some pills I could take on a daily basis (or every day I thought I'd have sex) that would work preventatively. Seems like a lot of docs don't know about this though.
Peeing after helps a lot. I also know I had much worse problems when I was with a guy whose hygeine wasn't so terriffic.
