My H sent a settlement proposal to my atty which is acceptable with a few minor changes. After he demanded full custody, child support and alimony, he's now willing to be reasonable.
I'm shocked to see that he's able to accept this and respond with a reasonable proposal. I don't know if the MC we're seeing for communication got through to him, or if his lawyer did.

Has anyone experienced a turnaround in stance so dramatically before. I wary, but I believe its true!

I feel like I'm in shock because I expected this to be a battle, but I think the settlement is fair for both of us. A bizarre change of events.

I can only hope that mine does that. She wants full custody. I want 50/50. Good luck.

Newly: Congratulations. That must be a load off your mind. My stbxh did somewhat of the same thing. He didn't want to give me 1/2 of a large bank account but he caved in immediately when my attorney sent his attorney a letter. I was shocked. But I found out later he gave in so easily because he really needed the money and 1/2 was better than fighting for several weeks over it. These betrayers always seem to have ulterior motives.

It was probably his lawyer telling him he couldn't get all the stuff he wanted.

My x's first couple proposals were a little outlandish too(first, I wouldn't have to pay her pay her alimony if I didn't seek child support and granted her liberal visitation, then she dropped those and tried I wouldn't touch her pension, so they added her total to mine and then divided by half; wanted me to pay for her lawyer; pay a bunch of made-up fees).

After I said no, she went for half my pension(picked the wrong account) and half of the house(she let me set the value) and basic visitation.

I was going to try for things like college fund for the kids and my lawyer said it would never fly.

I agree, it was probably the lawyer.

He may have wanted those things mentioned in the first proposal, but would have been advised that there was no way he was going to get them, but.........no harm in trying it. His lawyer may have said, well the wife might cave, but probably not.

I am dealing with this scenario right now. My lawyer and his have chatted and she thinks his lawyer can talk him around to my proposal, but in the meantime, they are submitting other figures, in the hope that I will budge. No harm done, I won't budge...I already came down some, and even if he doesn't, I WILL get what I ask for in court because it is fair, and the registrar already stated that.

Thanks for all your responses.
It's somewhat scary that this could all be over so quickly. 7 months ago I hadn't even thought of divorce.
