For me, it would absolutely have to be "Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone".

the 1st song that popped into my head was the old very old Carly Simon song You are so vain.
Not really sure why that song came to mind except I think the STBX likes the fact that I fought for our marriage & the OW would never go away. I am sure he believes that I have drug out the divorce thinking he come back, no, I did it because there were some things I knew we had to do & I didn't want to & also knew it really gets to OW that STBX is still MARRIED. [ August 02, 2002, 11:55 AM: Message edited by: sing ]

now a new song by janet jackson. you would really like it. carly is on the song and there is a chant that janet and carly recite that goes, "ah ha who who, who'd you give your money to, gready motha f**ca try to have your cake and eat it too"...
NE way there is a song that reminds me of my ex, it's by Alicia Keys, it's the 9th track on her cd. i don't know the name but the hook goes "how do you find the words to say goodbye when your heart don't have the heart to say goodby"... [ August 02, 2002, 12:14 PM: Message edited by: idostylin ]

Southern Cross preformed by Jimmy Buffett. Her are some of the words.
CHORUS: Think about how many times I have fallen Spirits are using me, larger voices callin' What heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten I have been around the world lookin' for that woman, girl Who knows love can endure and you know it will, and you know it will
When you see the Southern Cross for the first time You understand now why you came this way 'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small But it's as big as the promise, the promise of a coming day
So I'm sailing for tomorrow, my dreams are a dyin' And my love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain I have my ship and all her flags are a flyin' She is all that I have left and music is her name
CHORUS
So we cheated and we lied and we tested And we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do You will survive being bested But somebody strong comes along and makes me forget, forget about loving you In the Southern Cross
(I've never cheated though. She has, I haven't. That is about the only part that doesn't apply.)

This one always gets to me..."The Heart of the Matter" by Don Henley:
I got the call today, I didn't wanna hear, But I knew that it would come. An old, true friend of ours was talkin' on the phone, She said you found someone. And I thought of all the bad luck, and the struggles we went through, And how I lost me and you lost you. What are those voices outside love's open door? Make us throw off our contentment and beg for something more?
'Cos I'm learning to live without you now, But I miss you sometimes. The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again. I've been tryin' to get down to the heart of the matter, But my will gets weak and my thoughts seem to scatter. But I think it's about forgiveness, forgiveness, Even if, even if, you don't love me anymore.
These times are so uncertain, There's a yearning undefined, an' people filled with rage. We all need a little tenderness, How can love survive in such a graceless age? Ahh, the trust and self-assurance that lead to happiness, They're the very things we kill, I guess. Ahh, pride and competition, cannot fill these empty arms, And the work I put between us, you know, it doesn't keep me warm.
I'm learning to live without you now, But I miss you, baby. An' the more I know, the less I understand, All the things I thought I'd figured out, I have to learn again. I've been tryin' to get down to the heart of the matter, But when everything changes, and my friends seem to scatter. But I think it's about forgiveness, forgiveness, Even if, even if, you don't love me anymore.
There are people in your life who've come and gone. They let you down, you know they hurt your pride. You better put it all behind you, baby, 'cos life goes on. You keep carryin' that anger, it'll eat you up inside, baby.
I've been tryin' to get down to the heart of the matter, But my will gets weak and my thoughts seem to scatter. But I think it's about forgiveness, forgiveness, Even if, even if, you don't love me anymore.
I've been tryin' to get down to the heart of the matter, Because the flesh will get weak and the ashes will scatter. So I'm thinkin' about forgiveness, forgiveness, Even if, even if you don't love me.

Definitely "I Heard it Through the Grapevine"
Ooh, I bet you're wondering how I knew 'bout you're plans to make me blue with some other guy that you knew before.
and "Lyin' Eyes".
Also, "Run around Sue"
And "You're So Vain" is universal. [ August 02, 2002, 02:34 PM: Message edited by: catamount82 ]

Linkin Park - In the End
(It starts with) One thing / I don’t know why It doesn’t even matter how hard you try Keep that in mind / I designed this rhyme To explain in due time All I know time is a valuable thing Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings Watch it count down to the end of the day The clock ticks life away It’s so unreal Didn’t look out below Watch the time go right out the window Trying to hold on / but didn’t even know Wasted it all just to Watch you go I kept everything inside and even though I tried / it all fell apart What it meant to me / will eventually / be a memory / of a time when I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn't even matter I had to fall To lose it all But in the end It doesn't even matter One thing / I don’t know why It doesn’t even matter how hard you try Keep that in mind / I designed this rhyme To remind myself how I tried so hard In spite of the way you were mocking me Acting like I was part of your property Remembering all the times you fought with me I’m surprised it got so (far) Things aren’t the way they were before You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore Not that you knew me back then But it all comes back to me In the end You kept everything inside and even though I tried / it all fell apart What it meant to me / will eventually / be a memory / of a time when I I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn’t even matter I had to fall To lose it all But in the end It doesn’t even matter I've put my trust in you Pushed as far as I can go And for all this There’s only one thing you should know I've put my trust in you Pushed as far as I can go And for all this There’s only one thing you should know I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn’t even matter I had to fall And lose it all But in the end It doesn’t even matter

I think of "It's too late" by Carole King.
My XW played "I'm Movin' On" by Rascal Flatts to me.
Lyrics included below: ================================================== "It's Too Late" by Carole King
Stayed in bed all mornin' just to pass the time There's somethin' wrong here, there can by no denyin' One of us is changin', or maybe we just stopped tryin'.
And it's too late baby, now it's too late Though we really did try to make it Something inside has died and I can't hide And I just can't fake it, oh no no no no.
It used to be so easy livin' here with you You were light and breezy and I knew just what to do Now you look so unhappy and I feel like a fool.
And it's too late baby, now it's too late Though we really did try to make it Something inside has died and I can't hide And I just can't fake it, oh no no.
Do do do do do do do do do do.
There'll be good times again for me and you But we just can't stay together, dont'cha feel it too? Still I'm glad for what we had, and how I once loved you.
But it's too late baby, now it's too late Though we really did try to make it Something inside has died and I can't hide And I just can't fake it Oh, no no no no no.
It's too late, baby It's too late, now darlin' It's too late. ================================================== "I'm Movin' On" by Rascal Flatts
I've dealt with my ghosts and I've faced all my demons Finally content with a past I regret I've found you find strength in your moments of weakness For once I'm at peace with myself I've been burdened with blame, trapped in the past for too long I'm movin' on
I've lived in this place and I know all the faces Each one is different but they're always the same They mean me no harm but it's time that I face it They'll never allow me to change But I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong I'm movin' on
Chorus I'm movin' on At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me And I know there's no garantees, but I'm not alone There comes a time in everyone's life When all you can see are the years passing by And I have made up my mind that those days are gone
I sold what I could and packed what I couldn't Stopped to fill up on my way out of town I loved like I should but lived like I shouldn't I had to lose everything to find out Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road I'm movin' on
I'm movin' on I'm movin' on

I'm really surprised that no one mentioned Alanis Morisette, (spelling), her first CD kept me alive during my divorce, my 13 year old daughter wants to sing and write songs just like her , it is a Canadian thing I guess I won't add the lyrics here, cause they would be censored, and rightly so.

Being the fan of Ben Folds that I am, I recommend his "Song For The Dumped" for anyone in that position. Not very many lyrics in it, I'll reproduce them here:
So you wanted to take a break? Slow it down some and have some space? Well, f*** you too!
Give me my money back Give me my money back, you b**** I want my money back And don't forget And don't forget to give me back my black T-shirt
I wish I hadn't bought you dinner Right before you dumped me on your front porch
Most of Ben Folds' songs and lyrics are much more gentle and thoughtful than that one. I'm still deciding whether my marriage can/will work, so I wanted to post the lyrics to one of my favorite Ben Folds songs on this thread. It's a song that feels meaningful to me for the situation I'm in now, even though I don't quite understand what the title means. It's called "Missing The War":
All is quiet, his tired eyes See figures jotted down And clothes all strewn around The bedroom floor
Now nothing's adding up And nothing's making sense She's sleeping like a baby She doesn't know he wasn't meant for this
Chorus: I'm missing the war I'm missing the war, all night Missing the war I'm missing the war
He drove home again Pissed and beaten It's really no big deal It happens all the time It's no big deal
[Chorus]
Time may fly And dreams may die The shaking voice that tells him "Go!" Still thinks he might He knows he won't
[Chorus]

That recent Linkin Park song.
Don't know the name for sure but it talks about.
"I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't really matter."
The funny thing is, that on the first D-Day, we were driving in the car, and this song came on the radio. She turned it up and stated to me, "This is my new favorite song."
I hadn't heard it before and really didn't listen to the words, but after I heard the song a few times I listened to the words, and felt horrible. Then I found out about her affair and all the lies she had been telling me. I confronted her, and from that day on, every time that song came on, she quickly turned the station. She acted so guilty.
Now it is my mantra. I worked my butt off over the following 4 months changing everything about me. I am a much better man than I was before her affair, and I really am proud of what I have accomplished. With God's help, I have become a man who can look at myself in the mirror again and say that I truly did EVERYTHING that I could have done for my marriage. But now I realize that no matter what I would have done, her heart was not in the marriage at all. Her heart was with another and it was only a matter of time before she left again. Well at least she waited until I had passed my Oral Boards. I would have been hard pressed to have passed with a divorce pending. But I guess, she figured that child support and maintenance wouldn't be as good with a doctor who didn't pass boards. Within 2 weeks of boards, she had left me.
Now I am glad however. I see just what I have to offer and that she is not worthy of the least that I can give. I truly thank her for acting like she did however. She allowed me to understand my weaknesses and work on them for 4 months. I truly changed and have had enough practice with my new behaviors and thought patterns that I will make a wonderful husband again some day. If I can ever learn to trust again. I can only be stepped on so many times before I stay down. But twice isn't enough for me.
I feel guilty, but I prayed for my future wife, if there is one out there tonight. I don't know if the fact that I am still married means that I am sinning. I don't have anyone that I am thinking of, but I prayed that if God has someone in mind, that he make her happy until we are together. That if she is hurting, he heal her. That if she is needing someone, that he help her to understand that I am here and will eventually find her with God's help and love.
I don't know and I truly don't know how to think about my feelings right now. What do you guys think about this type of thing? I have not thought of another woman in 13 years. But now that I am truly free of my wife, in my mind I have no feelings at all for her. I don't know what I think about "thinking about" other women in this type of situation. Not like I want to go out and start something. But I don't even know if I should be thinking about someone, regardless of a certain someone or not, while I am still married. There is no one at all, but for the first time ever, I prayed that there might eventually be someone. I do think of myself as a Christian, and am very confused. [ August 02, 2002, 10:37 PM: Message edited by: Confused & can't believe ]

Journey
LOVIN' TOUCHIN' SQUEEZIN'
You make me weep and wanna die Just when you said we'd try Lovin', touchin', squeezin' each other
When I'm alone all by myself You're out with someone else Lovin', touchin', squeezin' each other
You're tearin' me apart Every day, every day You're tearin' me apart Oh what can I say? You're tearin' me apart
It won't be long, yes till you're alone When your lover, oh, he hasn't come home Cause he's lovin' oo, he's touchin', He's squeezin' another
He's tearin' you apart Every day, every day He's tearin' you apart Oh girl what can you say? Cause he's lovin', touchin' another Now it's your turn, girl to cry Na na na na na na Na na na na na Na na na na na na Na na na na na

I like the one by Brass Construction from (ironically) the year we started dating - 1979 - It's called, "Movin' On"
...Got myself together UGH And a movin' on... That's about all the song says. 'Nuff said? Harold

I have two... One from Randy Travis (I don't care for country but I like this song.)
I told you so....
Suppose I called you up tonight and told you that I loved you And suppose I said "I wanna come back home". And suppose I cried and said "I think I finally learned my lesson" And I'm tired a-spendin' all my time alone.
If I told you that I realised you're all I ever wanted And it's killin' me to be so far away. Would you tell me that you loved me too and would we cry together? Or would you simply laugh at me and say:
"I told you so, oh I told you so I told you some day you come crawling back and asking me to take you in I told you so, but you had to go Now I found somebody new and you will never break my heart in two again".
If I got down on my knees and told you I was yours forever Would you get down on yours to and take my hand? Would we get that old time feelin', would we laugh and talk for hours The way we did when our love first began?
Would you tell me that you'd missed me too and that you'd been so lonely And you waited for the day that I return. And we'd live in love forever and that I'm your one and only Or would you say the tables finally turned?
Would you say:
"I told you so, oh I told you so I told you some day you come crawling back and asking me to take you in I told you so, but you had to go Now I found somebody new and you will never break my heart in two again".
"Now I found somebody new and you will never break my heart in two again".
And the Eagles song
After the thrill is gone...
Same dances in the same old shoes Some habits that you just can't lose There's no telling what a man might lose, After the thrill is gone
The flame rises but it soon descends Empty pages and a frozen pen You're not quite lovers and you're not quite friends After the thrill is gone, oh, After the thrill is gone
What can you do when your dreams come true And it's not quite like you planned? What have you done to be losing the one You held it so tight in your hand well
Time passes and you must move on, Half the distance takes you twice as long So you keep on singing for the sake of the song After the thrill is gone After the thrill is gone
You're afraid you might fall out of fashion And you're feeling cold and small Any kind of love without passion That ain't no kind of lovin' at all, well
Same dances in the same old shoes You get too careful with the steps you choose you don't care about winning but you don't want to lose After the thrill is gone After the thrill is gone After the thrill is gone, oh After the thrill is gone

There is also a song that reminds me of me. It is by Stevie Nicks.
Well I've run thru rainbows and castles of candy And I've cried a river of tears from the pain I try to dance with what life has to hand me My partner's been pleasure, my partner's been pain
There are days when I swear I could fly like an eagle and dark, desperate hours that nobody sees My arms stretched triumphant on top of the mountain My head in my hands, down on my knees
Chorus: Sometimes it's a bi_ch, sometimes it's a breeze Sometimes love's blind and sometimes it sees Sometimes it's roses, but sometimes it's weeds Sometimes it's a bi_ch...but sometimes...it's a breeze
I've reached in darkness and come out with treasures I've laid down with love and I've woke up with lies What's it all worth? - Only the heart can measure It's not what's in the mirror, but what's left inside
you've gotta take it as it comes...... Sometimes it don't come easy.......
Well I've run thru rainbows and castles of candy I've cried a river of tears from the pain I've tried to dance with what life had to hand me And if I could, I'd do it all over again
Sometimes it's a bi_ch, sometimes it's a breeze Sometimes the picture just ain't what it seems you get what you want but it's not what you need Sometimes it's a bi_ch and sometimes....it's a breeze
Sometimes it's a breeze
I really love this song and it reminds me that even the best of us go thru hard times in life. It's just another bump in the road... We go over several of them in our lifetimes! [ August 03, 2002, 10:02 AM: Message edited by: Roughneck ]

Not divorced, but have been on the brink recently.
For me it's "Darkness, Darkness," a new one out by Robert Plant. It goes something like
Darkness darkness, be my blanket, cover me with the deepest night.... fill this emptiness with light, now.
And a country song, don't know who sings it, but the chorus goes something like:
After all these years, what have I done? I've made your supper and your daughter and your son. But still I'm here, and soo confused And I can finally see how much I stand to lose After all these years.
I agree about the Linkin Park one, too - I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter. I put my trust in you, pushed as far as I can go, in the end there's only one thing you should know....
And on good days it's: Already Gone, by the Eagles
Well I heard some people talking just the other day And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf Lemme tell ya I got some news for you And you'll soon find out it's true Then you'll have to eat your lunch all by yourself
"Cause I'm already gone And I'm feelin' strong I will sing this vict'ry song WHOOHOOHOO-OO
The letter that you wrote me made me stop and wonder why But I guess you felt like you had to set things right. Just remeber this my girl, when you look up in the sky YOu can see the stars and still not see the light. That's right....
