Another sleepy day in West Texas...
My H is about to take our two D's out to the apt. pool to swim. He casually mentions that "so & so" called him and says there is a child missing from WalMart, two blocks away. I turn on the TV, find a report...tiny baby stolen right from the mini-van as the mom watched! This hits way too close to home...how many times have I, stay-home very careful mom, put my babies in the van and returned the basket 10 feet away!!??
So I call him on the cell and say, "This is serious, someone stole that baby, I'll come get the kids so you can go help!" (He's a police sgt.)He says "I'm off today, it's not my shift."
I'm apalled! My God this someone's little girl!
So here's the kicker:
I totally ignored the fact that less than 12 hours before, H had a SWAT call-out. A guy hell-bent on doing the suicide by cop thing. Apartment complex, people sound asleep at 4am. My H talks to the guy whenever he's willing to come out on the balcony, to no avail. The guy finally decides to kill himself. Shoots himself in the chest, they listen to his dying screams while they determine it's safe for the medics to go in. My H is the certified EMT on the team, so I have no doubt that he is the one who tended to the nearly dead guy before the paramedics could come in. He got a couple of hours sleep before he went back to the station for briefing.
4pm that afternoon I'm losing it because he's at the pool with our girls instead of out looking for that poor baby.
I have the two by four right here, who wants to hit me first?
I am usually very understanding about the stress of his job, how could I be so stupid?
