GIIC:
Boy do I ever remember that post! My biggest problem with the ferry these days is purely physical. I have a 'post-surgical back', as my Dr. likes to phrase it(having had a lumbar lamenectomy (spelling?) in April of 1999), and it has been very bad lately. I require long periods of icing with those blue 'freezer packs' after work so that I can walk the next day. I do still find the job mentally stultifying in the extreme, however, I read the following at
http://www.jesuit.ie/choice.html ;"Sometimes God calls us to action, and the effort to listen to God attentively in prayer will gradually make us aware of this. We experience it as a discomfort, and we are unable to rest until we have begun to do whatever needs doing.
At other times, the call is to patience and perseverance. If circumstances, or other people, or our own impatience, are pressing us to change, to move on, to abandon something unrewarding and start something new and exciting, it may only be in prayer that we get a sense of reassurance, and feel encouraged to stick with where we are and what we're doing. That same message can be found in Isaiah: For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: "In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength. But you refused and said, "No! We will flee upon horses"-- therefore you shall flee! and, "We will ride upon swift steeds"-- therefore your pursuers shall be swift! (Isaiah 30:15-16)
But it is only in my prayer, over time, that I discover what God is asking of me."
The above has been very inspirational to me. In addition, my friends, both on and off the ferry, have been a support that I could not have imagined before, what great people I know.
I would stay on for a while if asked by God, and I think that He is doing just that. I am still ashamed of having a degree in mathematics and being a computer programmer and doing such menial work...seems as if I've failed somehow. I suppose that may not be true, but it certainly feels that way.
Lastly, I have felt a support come to me, a support which I can only rightly attribute to Jesus as I have been talking to him quite a bit lately. He has never actually answered me back <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> , but I can feel Him in my life.
Thanks for asking of me....
my prayers to you and your children,
c++
