I'm in the process of getting a divorce (I filed but my husband hasn't been served yet). He asked for the divorce and I filed to protect my one year old son from being taken by my husband and his mother.

Anyway, tonight my husband asked me what I wanted in the divorce such as the house, car, etc. My attorney told me not to say anything but my husband is being very persistent. What should I say to him? I keep telling him that I don't know yet but I don't know how long I can say that and he keeps asking me. I want the house but my MIL asked my husband tonight how much our house is worth because she wants to put it on the market soon as she was building us a house before all of this happened and the house will be built soon.

How should I handle this?

You could tell him that you need some time to think things through that this is a big step and should not be rushed through.

Stand firm, You just stay persistant in not answering him until you are ready. Then go take a deep breath!

God Bless,

D.

WGTT is totally right, even the wording was perfect. You DON'T need to say anything involving your lawyer (i.e., getting their opinion, or having the lawyer inform your H, etc...)

But by now your lawyer should have gotten some estimations from you as far as the value of all your joint property (house, cars, retirement funds, all your assets, etc.). That's why you pay them so much, to work on the case on your behalf with your best interest in mind(supposedly). So you should be thinking of what your response will eventually be to your H (what you REALLY want), but just don't give it to him yet!
