MY DAD RECENTLY HAD BACK SURGERY FOR A RUPTURED DISC, EVER SINCE THEN HE HAS BEEN DEPRESSED. HE HAS TAKEN TO DRINKING ALOT OF ALCOHOL TO SURPRESS HIS FEELINGS. WHEN HE ISDRINKING HE BECOMES RATHER IRRITABLE AND ACCUSES MY MOTHER OF CHEATING ON HIM AND DEMEANS HER IN FRONT OF OTHERS. SHE HAS BEEN CONFIDING IN ME ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON, BUT I THINK THERE ARE OTHER ISSUES THAT ARE BOTHERING MY FATHER BUT NO ONE CAN GET HIM TO TALK ABOUT HIS FEELINGS BECAUSE HE IS TO STUBORN OR HE IS ALREADY BEEN DRINKING.
CAN ANYONE GIVE ME ADVISE ON HOW TO TALK TO MY FATHER WITHOUT MAKING HIM FEEL THREATEND SO HE TALK ABOUT WHAT IS BOTHERING HIM SO MY PARENTS CAN BE LIKE THEY ONCE WERE.
THANK YOU! MY BROTHER AND I GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR ADVISE!!!!
[This message has been edited by DG433 (edited August 22, 2000).]

sometimes when people are hurting like your dad is, the only thing you can do is tell them that you love them and tell them you are there if he needs to talk. tell him you are not taking sides.
unfortunately, your parents will have to work out their problems and you kids have to take the back seat...it is sad that our problems touch so many innocent lives.
pray for your parents and your family and let
God's will unfold. remember that all things happen for a reason...we may not understand it at first, but it will become clear in time.
God bless you and your family.
