Anyone out there familliar with UK Law?

When me and my wife decided to split we discussed amicably who was divorcing who. I chose not to divorce her because...

a)I did not want the separation, I wanted resolve.
b)My solicitor told me that her side would cost more, because there was more paperwork involved.
c)Even though I managed to proove adultery, all she had to do was deny my allegations and contest the grounds for divorce, and that would cost more money as time and matters would only drag on.

So... I decided to let her divorce me on grounds of unreasonable behaviour.Even though she has no grounds, she had to make something up. After all, she's not going to admit to her solicitor..."I am divorcing my husband because I was only after his money. So I had an affair.End of story! " Whatever she has said I will not contest just so we can get a cheap, spedy divorce.

As the respondant I am now told that I may have to pay my wife's legal costs. Does anyone know on what grounds I may have to pay and if there is any way of getting out of it. For e.g if I have managed to proove adultery on her and she can't proove her allegations against me, will this go against her in court?

She has told her solicitor that throughout the marriage I have been a controll freak and physicaly bullied her, but this is totally untrue, she has no proof and even more, I have good character refrences from everyone that knows me. The truth is..she married me for my fathers business and when she found out that he was not going to hand it down to us, she looked for somone else that she could manipulate. I have not contested the divorce but I have denied all alleagtions.I am told that there will be no comeback on this and it is in no way an admition to the grounds, just an agreement to let the divorce proceedings continue.

Also does anyone know what happens if she has to pay me out, but does not have the funds to do so. Can she pay me in installments of what she can afford or do I just get half of what she owns at the time. For e.g If she has £10,000 in the bank and then goes out and blows it all, leaving her with nothing. Can I still get some of it back if she has no more assets to sell?

regards

Marty
