OK people,
I am in a relatively good place right now and actually have been able to find many good things in my life, despite my pending divorce.
What I propose is that everyone look at their day or days and try to find at least one thing that was GOOD. It doesn't have to be anything earth-shattering, but I think that it is so easy to get into the funk about our world, that we can so easially overlook the good things in our day.
Maybe by posting even the small things, it will not only allow us to think about the days and our lives, searching for that ONE THING, even in the midst of one of the worst days in our lives. But I hope that it will also let others perhaps see that "Oh, yes, that happened to me as well, and I guess that was a pretty good thing." I hope that everyone will try. I promise to try to post everyday, at least once. I know that there are several of us who are in the doldrums right now. But I refuse to believe that each of us has a day that goes by in which there is not at least a little bit of good. Maybe someone just held the door for you at the grocery store. I hope that by posting good things, we will help others to see that maybe many of these same things also happened in their day. Often we don't see the good things in our day because we are so preoccupied with the horror of the bad. We can walk right past that smile or compliment with our divorces on our mind.
I hope and plea with everyone who reads this post to delve into your day and find something positive.
Please keep this a positive board. Even if the worst things happened to you, please post them on another board. Lets have a sanctuary of sorts for us to read and reflect.
A post a day..... That is all I ask. [ October 16, 2002, 05:27 AM: Message edited by: Formerly Confused ]

Formely Confused - What a great idea.... Lets see - well I won 6 on a scratch ticket so now I plan to buy 3 more tickets to see if I can win more... Plus the day at work was very busy - very productive... I am definately one of those people who would love to her good things - my divorce was last Wednesday and I am almost in a much better place.... Can't wait to read all of the good things that happened to everyone...

A post by the way will make the good doc smile all day.....
My new twist on the proverbial apple a day. F.C.. my friend you are again proving you have a heart of gold. My post? One of my girlfriends here in ATL has invited me along with her best friend from college who flew in to visit her this weekend to dinner tomorrow night and then we are having a girls' night. Son is with you know who. I am so happy. Tomorrow I am going to get my bi weekly pedicure and manicure. I am going to aerobics at 9:45 am and then clean house a bit. Then a whole afternoon of fun. Not sure what I will do. Sunday night my buddy and I are going to this huge singles bible study. I like you am trying to make positive steps each day.
Today one of my patients, a fortyish something, kind gentleman brought me an iris today. Told him I was originally from TN and moved from there last year. He said that TN lost its flower and that he should be mailing this iris back to them instead of giving it to me. He then said how he had heard during an earlier visit to our practice how one nurse was talking w/another saying that she couldn't wait until I got "on with it" meaning my life. Then they said that I deserved it b/c of all rotten stuff. Patient heard them and said, "you guys are talking about her? that happened to her?" Anyhow, he brought the flower and thanked me from the bottom of his heart not only for giving him a somewhat "painless" iv, but for listening to his concerns and just simply listening period during his last test. He said he wasn't trying to make me uncomfortable and that he was indeed happily married, but that there are so many kind people that just need to be reminded that they are special.
Put flower in a vase. My goodness, it was the first flower I have received in almost two years. Sometime F.C., I'll have to tell you about the valentine's day mix up. That is actually kind of funny now..
Have a good night...

Good to hear from you all, and now that I have, I expect to hear often.
Anyway, paradoxically, my good thing is a somewhat interesting thing. I grew up very "unwealthy" so to speak. Anyway, what that did for me is to allow me to learn to fix things myself. Today, I picked up my youngest son from school, (he is in kindergarden and has half day on Fridays. Which in itself could be my good thing. I get to spend a couple hours with him alone every single week, regardless if it is my weekend or not. He gets to pick where we have lunch. I remember my daddy picking me up from Kindergarden and taking me to the local Greasy Spoon, to this day I am not sure whether it really had another name. I would get a ham sandwich and a chocolate shake in an old time, clear green, fountain glass. It was one of those places with the little Juke box on the table that you put in a dime and got three songs. Man I used to love those days.)
Anyway, I stopped my Jeep, I drive a old '95 Wrangler, and when I tried to restart it ...... NOTHING.
I finally figured out that it was my starter, and I thought, Great, just what I need more money down the drain. Anyway, I push/popped the clutch and got it started. Bought the starter and put it on myself. I have always worked on cars, because if they broke we always fixed them. Anyway, it reminded me of just what I am capable of. Yesterday I was stenting a man's Carotid artery because he was too sick for surgery, today, I am laying in the grease under my Jeep changing a starter. It made me feel really good. It made me realize that I have alot to offer in all sorts of ways. It also gave me a chance to teach my son how to do some things on cars. He gets to see daddy work on people then work on cars.
Some peoples bad things can be another person's good thing.

f c,
This morning I was involved in a discussion about honesty. I am in a situation with WH (we have a business together) and the effects of his dishonesty. It's got me tied up in knots. I can't live that way ! He lies and lies and lies.
The net result was that I walked away feeling really good about the person that I am, how I live my life, and WHO I belong to. I am greatful that I am not in my WH's shoes.
A friend once suggested that everyday I write down a graditude list with 10 things on it. It was amazing to me at the time, that my whole outlook on life changed.

Okay, I'm game!
This positive thing actually happened yesterday, but here goes...
A co-worker of mine is engaged to a very beautiful and successful mortgage broker. She has a very, very cute business partner. At the urging of my co-worker, I gave her a personalized gift that just about no one else could give her.
To put it mildly, she melted! She sent me an e-mail telling me how special I made her feel.
Now, if I somehow manage to get a date with this woman, I will have "out-punted my coverage," as we say...since she is totally out of my league.
But my foot is in the door...

FC - Ex has all the kids, so I just spent the evening with my sister who for the past 5 years has practically raised my kids with me and who I haven't spend a fun evening with in many many many months because of all this mess. It was truly a good thing. - K

Excellent... Excellent..... Excellent.....
Woke up this morning and walked into my boys room. They are laying there all contorted and looking so peaceful. Had one of my great things for the day about 2 minutes after awakening.

Great Idea Doc!
A friend of mine from work had a stent put in after a heart attack. He was out in three days and is doing great. I watched the Ohio State U.C. game with him last weekend and he was allowed to have BEER! WOW!
As for me, I caught some nice bluegill today and had them for dinner. They were great!

FC,
God Bless You. What a wonderful idea.
Today I started to redecorate my house to match my taste and I controled 90% of my thoughts. A major undertaking I might add!.

Though I am a city girl, I love to can tomatoes each summer. And last weekend I canned 14 jars of tomatoes. I know I could buy them at the store but it just gives closure to the summer for me to do this.
Anyway, tonight I am making Peruvian Sauce, sort of a tomato relish, out of the end of the tomatoes.
And tomorrow I can look at all those jars of "summertime."
Now I need a way to get rid of fruitflies.
Oh, and another thing, I get to spend next weekend with my favorite diplomat.

Today I made chocolate chip cookies with my girls. They are able to do most of it themselves and I just supervise and handle the oven and hot trays. It was great fun!

Well, today for Sunday dinner, my 8 year old surprised me and his siblings by making us dinner - he made peanut butter and grape (as in real grapes, not jelly)sandwiches - complete with milk poured for the kids and a water with ice for me.
He was so proud - and so was I - with his thoughtfulness - and the sandwiches were actually pretty goog too and everyone ate every bite - hey, don't knock it 'til you tried it!

Great idea. This morning my husband apologized for his anger at me last night. It is the first time in almost 2 months that he has showed any regret for what he is doing to our family. I praise God for every little thing. Kelli

let's see,
My OS helped YS empty the dishwasher, now that may not sound like much but my OS is 18 & the most spoiled child on the face of the earth, yes my fault. OS also turned a project in on time, this in itself should be turned in to a national holiday. Now for the research paper that is due this wk.
OS was alive, he didn't come in till the next morning, story fell asleep at a friends, dont buy it but think he was counting on me falling asleep & not knowing he was still out & he was going to sneak in, foiled that plan by calling his phone every 15 minutes, so he did sleep at a friends, then I got the pleasure of waking STBX & OW before 5 & having STBX drive over an hr to be here when OS showed up. NOw OS is prety much grounded, & I can go to bed early on wkends & sleep a little late.
Most importanly I may have a full time teaching job, hopefully know this wk, but as of last Wed I have done enough days to get paid long term sub rates
and I like the D recovery class I am going to.
I like the church where it is, even if the preacher is from Freed, cinderella will understand that one but he is from out great state

Ok Great everyone. Thanks for keeping this going.I hope that everyone will get something out of it, even if it is only to look at your day critically and find a good thing within it.
My day started out kind of bland, we were gong to go to a local state park to look for "rocks", yes my oldest son wants to be a geologist, but I couldn't go because I had to be on call. But I took my boys to the park and practiced soccer then we played on the equipment. That turned out to be really fun, because my youngest boy, 5, is finally getting into playing soccer. And he is actually pretty good when he tries. I think he has a sense of self defeat, in that if he doesn't excell right away, he "can't" do it. But we worked today and he really did a great job after he got going.
I also slept in today for the first day in about 8 months. I have been getting up at about 4:30 or 5 for so long that even on the weekends, I can't sleep very long. I have the quintessential doctor need for sleep. I usually top out at about 4 or 5 hours a night. But I fell asleep on the couch with my oldest boy, he likes to snuggle. And we all went to bed about 11pm. (We were all asleep downstairs at about 8:30, hehe). I slept until about 1 am when my youngest boy came into my room and asked to sleep with me. This was the first time since we moved out. I kind of heard him wake up in the morning and could tell he was making every effort to not wake me up. I rolled over, fell back to sleep, and woke up at 8am!!!! Woootttt
Made apple and sausage stuffed French toast for supper tonight. That was very good. Oldest boy loved it, youngest didn't like the apples, but oh well. I thought it was good. And the boys both like having breakfast for supper every once in a while.
Lets hear your good things today. Come on now.... [ September 29, 2002, 07:13 PM: Message edited by: Formerly Confused ]

My XH bought our son new school shoes and said he's going to help pay for swim lessons.
I am hoping this is a small step in the right direction!
