I am expecting to separate and divorce in the next few months. At what point should we divide up our accounts? How do we determine how our furnishings will be divided? I want to do the decent thing and I want to make sure he does too.
Also, if I move out into an apartment before all of our furnishings have been divided up legally will I forfeit my right to come back and get things? Will I forfeit my right to half of the equity on the house?

I know these are legal questions, but, I thought if some of you have been through it you would know how it is generally handled. Thank you.

TP,

Each state is different so it would be advisable to consult with an attorney. There are also websites that have information - I think web page is one of the best. There is also one - I think its dirtydivorcetricks.com if you think he might pull some punches.

Also it depends on your relationship. There are stories here on these boards where
spouses parted amicably and there are others that thought they would and didn't and then some that were hell all the way through.

Sorry you are here, but MB is a great place.

God Bless,

D.

PS If you could post where you live, that would help others assist you with more information.
