My son is nine and a half. He is a very bright and loving son, and has always done well at school. I have always been proud of him.

It is the end of our school year here in Australia. We had our school concert last night, and awards were given to the children for various achievements throughout the year.

Well, my precious boy, who has had so much to deal with this past year; dad living overseas, moving countries, new house, new school, making new friends, and who is currently going through a very difficult period regarding the divorce of his parents, MY SON managed to maintain his marks in class and received the Grade 3 (4th Grade US) Academic Achievement Award for 2002.

The BEST thing is that he was so totally STUNNED by the teacher's choice that he had one HUGE grin from ear to ear....the best smile I have seen on his face for a long time! I sat there with tears in my eye, and since I was at the front of the assembly (helping out in my role of music teacher for the past four weeks) I got to have an immediate hug with my boy.

I am one proud mother here, and I just wanted to share it with you all.

Sometimes in amongst all the rainclouds a sunbeam breaks through .

This is a blessing from God. As we all know chidlren get hurt from divorce as much as the parents. Your son, will always remember this day, and you (mom) were there with him. Keep on going, and enjoy his good/bad days.

Bless you during this holiday season.

Don't they make you so proud!?

I too am lucky enough to have a happy and healthy and also very intelligent little boy.

It makes a mom cheer to know that they can overcome what's been thrown at them and excel at school.

Thanks for your good wishes everyone. I am still (and always have been anyway) so proud of him.

I got the name of the award wrong, though....it was for Academic Excellence . He said "Mum, no-one has ever given me an award for just being good at my work before!" To which I and the Principal of the school replied "Well hard work should be rewarded!"

As soon as we got home that night he hung the framed certificate in his room, and he also got a little engraved trophy which I do not think has left his side since!

And since I am a good Mummy and X-wife-to-be (where is MY award, lol)when we got home I emailed his dad and told him about it and that he could congratulate his son if he rang within the next ten minutes (as it was way past bedtime). He called, and after they spoke Sam said that it was the best conversation they had had in a long time. So he was a very happy boy.

You know sometimes the children show us the way....with all that has been going on, Sam has just not let it interfere with what he is good at, and THAT, more than anything, is why I am so proud of him. When the going got tough, he got up and went for it:D.

Love and light,

Jacky

Thank you everyone for your kind congratulations to Sam and the encouragement for me, too.

Today I had another reason to be proud of him....they had their Grades 3-6 Spelling Championship today (last day of the school year). Out of every kid in the school, he came THIRD!!!

The first and second place getters were Grade six children, so I was able to be even MORE proud of him!

The word that tripped him up?

"Mountainous"....er, is that how you spell it?....well, he said he is going to work on that one!

Love and light,

Jacky
