I got home from work and there were messages on my machine from the County attorney...my x's trial for breaking the no contact order is tomorrow morning at 9 and I have to be a witness. Nothing like short notice! Anyway, we discussed what I have to do and say.
My question for you is....how should I dress? (I'm a cook at a senior center and a mom, no fancy business wardrobe here). I haven't spoken to him or seen him since October...there is a no contact order so I won't be talking to him, but do I look at him? Acknowledge him? Ignore him? I am sure he blames me for all his current problems, i.e. has to get counseling, did jail time, limited visitation, unemployment...but the truth is he had alot of those problems before and I just covered for him so he wouldn't get in trouble. Any suggestions?

You walk into that courtroom tomorrow, hold your head up high, look XH straight in the eye, nod to him, and take the high road throughout the proceedings.
Dress: nothing fancy is expected or called for. Dress for comfort and not for style. It's not a fashion show. Many dress very casually for court. Nothing to worry about or be concerned about at all. Whatever you want to wear will be just fine.
Short notice on these matters is all too often a given. You'll do fine. Take a deep breath and be honest with your responses. Good luck with everything.

You were given good advice. You dont need fancy business clothes, just clean and neat. Casual is fine. You dont need to impress ex.. youre already above that.
I would look him in the eye, but skip the nod. You dont need to acknowledge him in any way.

Annavon,
I had to testify in court before, my lawyer stressed to me and my then not ex that we should dress respectfully. Judges still look at this. They do not like tennis shoes, they do not like blue jeans and they do not like flashy...
So my suggestion would be nice dress pants, or a contemporary dress, no big highheels, low heels or no heels, but no tennis shoes...
My ex forgot and wore his tennis shoes with dress pants, he forgot to bring his dress shoes and my attorney was relieved the case was rescheduled because of the tennis shoes. That is how big of a deal he thought it would be...
Anyway, just as stated from another poster....head high...be proud...go into a private area, bathroom or somewhere and pray or meditate before you walk in, this helped me tremendously...
Take care,
The other ANNA

Thanks Ammon and Sunrise1. I know I don't have to impress anyone, just look respectable! Anna, haven't chatted with you in awhile! Miss you....anyway, I'm going thru my wardrobe. I"m either very casual....jeans and baggy sweatshirt.....or I do wearable art and my clothes are.....fun. But not exactly court wear. And I wear 16th century dresses for re-enactment.....those aren't very good either, lol. Surely I have something normal in my wardrobe.....somewhere....... [ January 08, 2003, 10:29 PM: Message edited by: Annavon ]
