I have an appointment with a lawyer this afternoon and I am quite nervous. What should I have with me? Do I need a legal separation? I really just want the deed to house in my name H said I could have the house. (his guilt) My mother said lets do the house thing while he is stupid and realize how much money he will lose doing this. I did talk to H about this and he said he will sign whatever I give him, he wants the boys and I to have the house. I told him that I will be going for half of his retirement and he said I deserve it and that's fine. I would like to stay on his health insurance but don't know if that's possible. I have 2 sons 21 years and 19 years old so I don't know if I would qualify for CS or even alimony. I could use some extra money from him. I could pay for the morgage but I will be stretched to my limit. I am so nervous I never thought I would have to do this.
I saw the in-laws this past weekend for the first time and it went very well. I handled myself and controled the tears till I got to car. Life can be so hard. LJ

Not sure if this will get to you before your lawyer appointment. The laws differ from state to state and your lawyer can advise you. However, you may want to be prepared when you talk to your legal counsel, the more you know going into your appointment the better off you'll be (and not take so much of their time, therefore costing you more money too). Check out these websites for basic, state-related info:
Divorce Info Divorce Source or DivorceNet

Good luck <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> I know having to "start over" at this point in your life is difficult.

Hi,

Once he gets a lawyer the game will be up so get him to sign over the house now. His lawyer will not acept this as it will make him look bad down the road.

goood luck

Just came back and Lawyer is shocked H will sign over the deed to house to me. His take was if I was his Lawyer I would direct him otherwise. I feel bad because I have no intention of ripping my H off, I will talk to him tonight and let him know what went on. I was also told that my 2 boys are eligable for CS because their in school so I was surprised by that. We will go for alimony just because of the ages of my boys they will only be eligable for a short while and we can ammend my alimony once the CS stops. It was quite painless except the cost he wants 3600 as a retainer, is that exceptable? I really don't know. H doesn't have any money so I'm not sure what he is going to do about getting a lawyer. Maybe it will go uncontested!!! This whole thing is so.... sad and I cry that I'm having to do all of this. Will I ever be happy again? I have so long to go. LJ
