I'm so frustrated.....when I was married, I didn't have an outside job, so when the kids were sick it was no problem. Now I have to work, but it seems the kids have gotten sick alot more this winter, and then of course I have to stay home. My boss is so understanding about it.....but of course I still don't get paid. And since my ex hasn't paid child support in over 2 months, I'm falling farther behind on my bills.

How do other parents handle this? What do you do when your child is sick? My mom lives 4 hours away, so that's no help; and you really can't ask a friend to watch a sick child....I just don't know what to do, or how to pay the bills with no money.

OK well first why is he behind in child support payments??? Can't you attach his pay and get paid by the state??? And I was unaware of this but in Massachusetts if the father is not seeing the child as agreed upon then you can go back to court and get more money ??? Might be something to look into - and about attaching his pay.. And as for the kids being sick - When they are throwing up - I stay home but other than that a friend I am sure would come through in a pinch for you - you just have to ask ??? I mean if you are anything like me I have a hard time asking people for help but if you need it - you need it..... So ask....

In Iowa they automatically garnish wages....but according to Child Support Recovery, he is not working, therefore nothing to garnish. I find that hard to believe and suspect he's working for cash, but no way to prove it. At this point, I guess I'm just on my own...they promised to review his case and eventually he'll go to jail if he doesn't pay, but that could take awhile.

Unfortunately, every time they've gotten sick it's strep or throwing up.....and they never get it all on the same day, it's one right after the other. I"ve got to figure out another way to make money.

God bless you and your family.
I had to stay home two days last week for just a fever. And my backup was watching an infant so I couldn't use her.
Eventually you will make friends with parents from school, and possibly form a network that way.

Good Luck.
My H has been demanding 50/50 custody, but in his mind, I should be the one to take off when the children are sick. I said, NO, the parent who has them the night before must stay home with them. His parent's watched them anyway.
