Okay fellow Mbers,

My ex brought his g/f to the game today, it was a little uncomfortable as she hung all over him, but I predicted this would happen because last game on a Saturday he did the same thing, so this time I brought a chair and avoided sitting on the bleechers with them.

And, all the above really nothing to do with the question...

After the game, strangely a man on the team came up to me and said, "Was that your ex?" I said, "Yes" he said, "And was that his g/f?" I said, "uhhh yea" and he said, "She's UGLY". I was so caught off guard it made me laugh but then he looked at me puzzled...that bugged me, I tried reading his mind and I keep thinking that he was wondering what was wrong with me...

I wanted to say, "Hey, I didn't want him, he didn't dump me because something was wrong with me." but stopped with just saying "Well, better her than me, she can have him." So, he laughed...

So, I guess my question is, if you see someone that just recently divorced and they are with someone not so attractive what goes through your mind? Do you think something must be wrong with his ex-wife for him to choose her over this woman?

Just feeling like my ego got whacked a little tonight.

Chick, you are so funny!

I took it almost the EXACT OPPOSITE WAY. I took it to mean: "Why in the HECK would he drop a nice, funny, pretty woman like you to be with a dog-face like that? What's wrong with him?"

haha

No seriously. For the most part, that's the reaction I get from people, I think (and trust me, I'm no raging beauty myself!). HOWEVER, most people, once they get to know me, think I'm a pretty neat woman--all except my stbx!

When I see someone who is recently divorced and their ex is with someone ugly, I wonder about the EX! I wonder, "What were they thinking?? They're trading DOWN, not trading up. Their new person is the pits!" I think that they were probably stubborn and foolish to give up a pretty good thing rather than stay and work it out like an adult. Thus, I'm biased, I know, but I tend to look at the ex who got the ugly SO and think that they probably did not deal with any of their issues, acted immaturely, and just ran into the arms of the next available golddigger.

And the person whose ex has the ugly SO?? I tend to think, "Boy, you poor thing! Too bad your ex was so stupid. Oh well, you can do better."

Thanks CJ! I like your version better than mine. I was talking to Annavon on IM who said something similar.

I now have such a bigger problem.

It's 3:00 a.m. in the morning. My son just woke me up to let me know his ceiling is leaking water. It's the airconditioner, the thing is gone and will cost a pretty penny. A penny I don't have. Boy what a rough day! I am thinking "What the heck made me think I can be a home owner to a house that is over 20 years old? I can't afford all these repairs."

Houston is too hot to even think about no air for even a week.

ANNA

P.S.

At least I knew to poke a hole in the ceiling to let the water drain.

Anna,
I also had similar thoughts to what FaithfulWife had. I usually think of how the "dumper" must be really stupid to dump someone like the spouse for an ugly new model. As I was reading your post, I wondered that maybe the man you spoke with was trying to confirm that you are indeed divorced (i.e., available) and wanted to start the conversation with the only comment he could think of. Is he single?

Sorry about your a/c. My house is 65 yrs old, and something is always amiss!

Anna,

the AC drain could be plugged, that's all,
you need to go and find the drain tray, and see if there are any holes, and where the drain leads to.

A 20 year old house should be fine to live in. Its really not considered very old, i lived in a 100 plus year old farm house, built in the 1800s and that age has problems. . . . if it weren't for the drafts, i would have had CO posioning.

now, unless the air is warm coming out of the AC vents, water means that the AC is working fine.

Well... From a man's perspective here is exactly what I would think: "What's wrong with this guy - he dropped this pretty lady for... THAT??! What was he thinking, anyway?? Geez, not only is he blind, he's stupid too."
Just my view on this - because it happened to me...

RE: The airconditioner, it could possibly be that one of the lines has a pinhole leak and your system has lost the Freon (cooling agent) If that is the case, the line will have white frost on it near the unit compressor (which is where the outside line to the fan unit connects to the inside unit).
PS - I hope it's something very simple.
PSS - I've also been to Houston, and I now live in North Texas near Dallas. I sure sympathize with you about no air - it's just too blame hot down here to live without it.

Anna,
Check your house insurance. It should cover the expence.
Yes, check the drain. It might be a small PCV pipe leading away from the unit itself and leads outside. If you don't see any cracks or breaks it might be clogged. If you can, get air through the pipe to check if it's clogged. The right amount of air pressure, meaning a lot, will push out the clog like a sink clog. This happened to us and my STBXH used his compresser and air hose to force out the junk in the pipe. He told me he spoke to the AC guy and this is what he suggested.
Check your home owners insurance policy. Call the company and go from there.
I've been hearing about American Home Sheild. Low cost yearly insurance that covers a lot of these things and things you wouldn't even think are covered. My lawyer told me about it. I'm planning on using it for my house when I move.
Don't panic. Suddenly, God will help you.

The guy was trying to make you feel good, diss your x, compliment you, and set the stage for asking you out... Take it as a compliment as in "Why would he dump YOU for that???"

I think the polite thing to do would be to laugh, shrug, and smile... maybe even compliment him on his team's performance or something if you were interested in making conversation.

Cheers.

Thanks for all your help!

First about the comment, I sure wish he would have turned that around and said, "You are much prettier than she is...or he down-graded..." Then I would have taken it as a compliment.

Lyxa,

The man is married so I hope it wasn't a line trying to pick me up. He does seem to ask me a lot of personal questions, but it's odd how if an opposite sex guy ask a woman personal questions people usually think he/she's interested and just probably hitting on them, however, if it were a lady asking me these questions, people would just think she was trying to be friendly.

I live in the suburbs, I have children, so every where I go there only seem to be married people and few singles.

Wift, Thanks for the suggestion on the AC repair, I went up in the attic and looked, I had no clue what I was doing so I called an AC repairman and just handed him over $150.00 to clear the clog, put algae pills in the system and put a little freon in the unit. My house is actually about 25 years old and the unit is as old as the house. The guy says it's pretty much on it's last leg but perhaps I can get another season out of it.

He said the heater is in worse condition and looks like it may have a crack, I knew that and am trying to save enough money to repair that before winter comes again.

I think he quoted me way to high on replacing everything. He said around $6,000 to $7,000.

TR, thanks for your suggestion on IM to talk to the electric company, I did and they said they don't sponsor a program that would finance my AC.

It is so costly to be a homeowner, I just wonder if I am making the right decision to keep my home.

Here's what I see as the positives and negatives. My house has equity, it's like an investment, it's the only thing I own worth any thing since the divorce...

In a couple of years my second mortgage will be paid off which will drop my payments by $300.00 a month. Then the equity will be even greater.

It's the kids only home they ever knew.

On the down side though. I am struggling with a mortgage, second mortgage and I am not even coming close to all the repairs I need to do. The homeowners association comes down hard on people who don't maintain their lawn and their house. It's costing me a fortune trying to keep up. It would take so much stress off me to live some where that I am not responsible for the upkeep.

After typing all this out, I think I would be crazy to sell it at this moment, I think I need to do my best with the repairs and keep it.

Thanks again!

ANNA

Anna, I read your post and had two thoughts come to mind.

One, I think the guy was definately thinking your x had downgraded.

Two, to help ease your mind over the house, why not have a realtor do a market analysis on the place? It will give you a reasonable idea of what it is currently worth versus what it will cost to keep the place going. And it by no means commits you to trying to sell it.

After spending half the weekend trying to get the lawn mower started after it's long winter's nap, I can fully appreciate your situation!
