Okay, I was watching Ghost....yes I still love that movie...anyway, I heard this loud electrical noise, kind of like fireworks fizzling, looked up and one of the four lights attached to the ceiling fan went out with smoke. What the heck is that about? The other one stayed on but I turned them off. It stinks! Why did it do that?

Hi Anna2000~ It sounds like your light bulb just blew - an individual thing - like when you flip the switch and the light flashes bright blue then doesn't light and you have to replace it - sounds like the filament went out. I'd just replace the bulb - if it was an electrical thing with the fan then all 4 bulbs would have done that. If you put another bulb in it and it does the same thing, then you have a short in your ceiling fan and it's time to replace it.

you can always call the fire dept to talk to them.
I did that once when my dishwasher went out and I saw smoke.
it could of been worse..they unplugged it from the wall somehow they pulled it
out told me to get it replaced.

I have floresent lights in my kitchen that run the length of my ceiling.
and are two sets of two all run off on switch..and i am wondering if a ballast is
out or what I do know they need replacing but one of the things..not sure what ya call it is black and not sure IF It means electrical either.

do you have insurance on your house:)

it might be what other poster said..I have had that happen only NO SMELL..

replace the bulb make sure they are the correct WATTAGE..
will pray that it is just the bulb...

anyone know how to get a dishwasher fixed with a broom..?
mine needs it.brother in law done that long time ago..don't know what he did?? but it worked..lol..got any ideas.

HOLY COW! Houston we have a problem!!!

I should have stuck with my instincts, the fireworks fizzle didn't sound like any normal blow of a bulb.

I put in a new light bulb, and replaced another one that had gone out...two only worked before fireworks, and then only one worked after the fireworks display, and turned it on and this loud pop all lights went out on this fan.

well maybe plan B which is turn it off at the switch and call fire dept
ask them if you are in any danger to a fire.

am not trying to scare you, but I do know people who have had electrical
fires and it is usually smelled of wires..so please don't mess with it.
feel the wall to see if it is warm..

things will be ok..but you don't want to loose electricity..you got people
here that has some answers.
I am perhaps not the best one to advise..but if it were me I would call
fire dept to just ask..
or also a electricial could tell you.. what to do..nothing to mess with.
Don't is stink not to have the man of the house to fix it..??
but mine was always off fixing someone elses problems when he was
healthy while our house fell apart..
he was one of those "NICE GUYS" rofl..nice guy my foot..
no moral concience..or moral obligations..but expected perfection..shish..

I just read your other posts about poking hole in ceiling to let water out..
I think your wiring is shorted out..don't do anything else try not to use
anything from the ceiling:(
that wiring is probably wet.
you NEED help.

I am sure there is some sort of grant for you to help fix your place up.
I do know I Saw something on our utility statement. house repairs and
no loans..etc...I was going to check into it..there are some things
available.

Do you go to church? the church you attend also would help you get the
repairs made for you without expense to you.
gee your divorcee is not final..yet..can you get him to pay for some repairs
or would he fix things for his kids safety and comfort?
anyway just a few ideas..I know when things dry out things will be better
in the wiring but that light will need to be replaced..fan.

You need a new ceiling fan. Somewhere (I was hoping it wouldn't come to that) there is an electrical short in the fan's wiring. Please replace it ASAP.
PS - You should have seen what the ceiling fan did the first time I turned it on in our house we just bought. The blades went in one direction, the rest of the fan, including the lights went spinning dizzily in the other direction. When I took the fan down, every wire in it was twisted and the fan was completely shot! I replaced it - haven't had any problems since.
Please take it easy - perhaps get a neighbour to help you replace the fan...
