She starts out as a country western singer... develops a huge following... crosses over into rock... and yet she belongs to a religion that most people don't even know exists... and makes videos that seem like they'd alienate her country western fans. Same with her lifestyle.

I'm listening to her recent album right now. She's the best selling artist EVER, finally beating out Michael Jackson and Madonna and the Beattles and Elvis.

Anyways, post-dv me... I'm going back to my high school years and revisiting all my old celebrity crushes on female rockers. Anyone else find that after the dv became inevitable... they kind of "reverted" or something to things they liked or other behaviors prior to getting married?

I hope you'll post some wild and whacky ones! Shania comes after crushes on Faith Hill, Pink, Shakira, and Enya... <grin>.

Hi Lyxa! Right after I got divorced and was on my own again - I went back and dug out all my old casette tapes of the Euro-Techno bands I had from my first 2 tours of duty in Germany with the US Army.
I always grooved on that music, but my ex-wife not only hated it, she detested it. My wife now doesn't mind if I play it, and of course, I never played it loud or to antagonize anyone.
So I guess not to many folks here have heard of:
Capella, Blue System, Haddaway, The KLF, 2 Brothers On The Fourth Floor, Culture Beat, 2 Unlimited, or E-Rotic.
And now with File-Sharing and MP3s, it's Musique Heaven!
Still JAMMin' - same as it ever was...
Harold

Shania is a mystery, to be sure.

Did you know that she actually started out singing rock and top 40? I've heard songs from her early efforts that sound like generic, overblown 80's hair rock...she even did a cover of Cher's "Half Breed" under the name Eileen Twain!

Her videos have always been controversial, btw. When she bared her belly in her first few videos, jaws dropped all over Nashville...you just didn't do stuff like that!

BTW, while Shania has sold more than any other female artist, the best selling solo artist ever is still Garth Brooks...100 million albums and counting.

As far as post-divorce crushes...I've got lots! I had blinders on when I was married, and since then I've noticed that I work with a whole lot of really beautiful women!

As for celebrities, it doesn't get any better than Martina McBride. Yeah, she's happily married and all, but I've met her a couple of times, and wow! Not only is she beautiful, but that VOICE! I've been a few feet away when she was singing, and I still get chills thinking about it.

I'm so glad you DID not list David Hasslehoff in your euro-groove list... otherwise I may have had to humbly but emphatically request Thread Deletion <gulp>. LOL. It's hillarious to me how it all comes back. And sometimes, I feel like I'm getting whiplash looking at all the beautiful women around me. Now, if only they didn't terrify me so much! <chuckles> I'll figure it out.

Garth Brooks... ewwwwwwww... I don't believe that. They didn't even list him in the article I read about Shania. Dang but she's hot. I used to loathe country western... but thanks to pioneering artists like her and Faith Hill... I'm developing a like for it. I just imagine that they're singing to me!

Here's another one: vampire movies. I LOVE vampire movies... not the really nasty gorey ones either... more like Interview with a Vampire, Blade, etc. Thank heavens for Netflix!

Adgirl...

No, I'm not from Nashville, but I work in country radio, so I've met lots of country artists. The last time I was in Nash-vegas was for the '97 CMA awards.

Lyxa...

Sorry, but Garth is the best-selling solo artist of all time. I don't know what article you're reading, but Garth has sold more albums than Elvis, Sinatra, and Shania.

Btw, Faith Hill was one of the artists that made me love country music..."It Matters to Me" was the song that put me "over the top."

I am not sure that you guys love country music, or just are infatuated with the 'country' singers. Country is not country any longer. That is ok, I like music and I don't typically get up in arms about anything.

Now don't think that I don't enjoy the sights of Shania and Faith, and they sing wonderfully. However, lets not interject as great set of pipes for a great set of ....

I agree. I think these guys just like the hot women. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
I do think these women are great singers though.
Martina is my favorite as well.
I relate to her words.
Since my STBXH and I split, I have been listening to a lot of old music I listened to before I met him. Nothing in any order. Boston is still my all time favorite. T-Heads always makes me smile.
I don't consider myself bitter but I am having a hard time dealing with single men. I find myself pushing men away. Is this normal? I know I'm no where near ready to date but I feel a wall go up when they try to talk to me. I don't feel that way here. This is safe. You all know me for who I am, not what I look like. You are all in the same boat as me also. It's like I trust you guys but I don't trust men in general. Does this make sense? I want to be liked for who I am, not what I look like.

Aly

I think that you're still working on redefining yourself... because you aren't quite sure about what you're willing to go for with potential relationships... you 2nd guess others. For a long while, I'd die whenever I was around single women. I felt judged... or predated (as in predator not pre-dating... anyways). Give yourself some time Aly. It's also a lot harder when you're still in contact of any kind with your x.

I noticed a huge change in my feelings when I realized that though I am most certainly going to have some trust issues... if I met the right person and things were going well, I would and could pursue a romantic interest. Prior to that, I just noticed scathing similiarities to my x. On that note though, I see myself having major issues at the point that she starts talking commitment. Casual relationships, non-exclusive dating, having fun, these are the kinds of things I know I can handle gracefully right now. I'm still very raw emotionally and can tell that I'd be a fruitcake past a certain level of "love" intensity.

But going back to the original topic at hand, Shania could sing Garth's songs to me ANY DAY, ANYTIME, and I'd be just fine. <big grin> Same with Faith Hill. I looked up Martina... so could she. And Leann Rimes. LOL. Celebrity crushes are so SAFE. If I admit to fantasizing about Shania... does that mean I'm in an EA with her? <teasing> You see... people that truly love country western, you'll never understand why everyone else hates it. There's a difference between the TWANGY southern dialect (replicated by CW's guitar rifts that overly-abuse the whammy bar)... and the SEXY/COOL southern accent that the cross-over artists have developed... even Garth. Granted, Garth doesn't inspire me to quit my job and try to score a spot on his tour as a groupie... but if Shania or Faith were available... they've got that breathless sexy southern thing going that if they were to whisper in my ear, would probably make me pass out.

formerly is right, Shania, Garth, and Faith are VERY FAR from country. "Alternative country" is more like the true country music. Nashville and Chicago are the hotbeds for this music. The Nashville "undergound" scene has some terrific artists, the quality of which far outstrips the above names, IMO. Lyxa, check out Allison Moorer. The quality of the music far outclasses Shania and she doesn't give up much in the looks department to her either, although she does it with more class and taste. Sorry fans, I can't stand Shania.

As soon as I filed and moved out, I immediately resumed all the activities that I had been forced to give up during the marriage. Music is a huge part of my life and I had been relegated to a little 9 x 10 spare bedroom, and every time I listened it caused a problem. Now my living room is full of music gear and pictures I've had taken with musicians I admire. Also, I can go fishing again, go to concerts again, and most of all talk to people and "be me" again.

How DOES Shania do it?
I really don't care HOW she does it but she CAN do it anytime she wants!

And yes, Faith Hill also...

More importantly... I guess I shouldn't force you all to see fan threads. So, I'll segue this to something topic-appropriate...

My dv was hard... but if Shania were available... I think I'd be able to face the dismall rebound %ages and give it my whole-hearted efforts! I wonder if celebrities have the same dv, A, and marriage issues that us "normal" people have?

Everytime I see or hear Bjork I just want her so bad, I don't know why. She is so fun in concert and her voice just drives me crazy. Bjork, if you ever read this, I love you, I really do.
