Well I got another slap upside my head last night from God. I went out to dinner with a couple friends I've known since high school. The one girl is 31 years old and is pregnant with her first child (due in about 6 weeks). She looked so excited and I was so excited for her.
We spent some time remembering old times and then the conversation turned to me and what I was doing. I explained I was divorced and that I'm now going through another stuggle in my life. Of course I didn't want to "bring down" the night so I tried my best to seem upbeat, but my friends could see the sadness in me.
Well later on in the night we were talking about my pregnant friend's husband and his job and how he felt about having his first child. At that moment her face changed and she said to me "I'm not sure if you know but Matt was diagnosed with Lukemia"... Then trying to catch herself before she broke down she followed up with "But he is going to get through it."...
Talk about a ton of bricks hitting me... Here is a young couple who should have so much to look forward to in their lives, with a child on the way, only to find out this news... I felt so incredibly sorry for her and him - wishing there was something I could do at that moment to take away her sadness..
So as bad as we think things are with us, we should all take a minute or two today and remember, they can always be worse... and to be thankful for the blessings we DO have in our lives...
God Bless, Mike
