My wife believes that the rate of divorce among people of different faiths who intermarry is higher--controlling for all other factors, of course.

Does anyone know if this has been statistically tracked?

By the way, she got this information from her rabbi years before she met me (the irony was that the rabbi ending up having an affair and got divorced!).

I don't think she brought up this point to pressure me to convert or anything like that. In fact, we discussed the religion issue before getting married and the agreement was that I support her religion exclusively in our household, which I have (and she has never disagreed).

Her view just seems to be that you're less likely to have marriage problems if you are of the same faith (the marriage problems we have are totally unrelated to religion--trust me).

I know my denomination just did a study on this, and my interfaith (very close faiths) marriage disintegrated. I just have never seen it, they did advertise it and are now having a speaker go to different parishes to discuss the results. Probably not due to faith, but due to H's lack of belief in any faith.

If you follow Policy of Joint Agreement in the practice, you'll probably be okay. The problem is when both have very cut and dry belief structures that are exclusive. If you believe the New Testament and take it literally, you'll believe that anyone who doesn't share your belief is bound for hell in a handbasket.

If neither of you is absolute or fanatical in your beliefs, I think you'll be just fine.
