you stop at your gay supervisors desk, dressed in you halloween costume, and he looks at you and gets a thoughtful, delighted look on his face and tells you that you should wear makeup more often because it brings out your eyes.
Yesterday I went to work dressed as a gypsy and wore what I thought was TONS of makeup. Everyone still thought I looked so wholesome I was a character from "The Sound Of Music."
Blast it, I guess I can't look sexy and provocative.
I have decided that makeup is an ornament and benefits no one in reality - other than cosmetics companies. There are better things to spend time and money on. So, I wear it only sporadically. Seldom little more than a little powder, small amount of light eyeshadow, some blusher and, maybe, a bit of mascara and lipstick - 2 minutes or so max - usually.
I was a bit surprised by what Ron said. Makes me wonder if I should rethink the whole make-up issue. But........ I don't have time for makeup. And I don't want my daughter thinking it's that important.

If it were a straight man, we could shrug it off. Of course, the straight men probably noticed you were looking unusually good, but didn't know why.
And definitely take it as a compliment.
Having reached a certain age, I've decided I, alas, need to wear some make-up in order to appear well groomed. I aim for every day, but it averages out to about half the time.
IMHO, a swipe of lipstick and mascara never did a woman harm. I think your daughter will learn from your attitude. It is not wrong to look your best, but always remember looks are not currency, virtue or personality. They are only window dressing.
And if we are "fair of face" it's absolutely no credit to us. The credit goes to the creator. [ November 01, 2003, 03:37 PM: Message edited by: greengables ]

Time? I can't be the only woman who puts her makeup on as she's driving to work! At the first dropoff I look awful, by the second, at least alive, and be the time I pull into the office, I have full makeup on.

How about in the office powder room first thing in the morning. Must be at least 4 of us.

Yeah, but those places have the world's worst light. How can you hope to do anything that makes the situation better if you are in that place?
And putting it on while I drive is not a good message to send to the two passengers in the back seat.
I thought, though, it was hysterical. I bet most straight men didn't notice. They couldn't have missed the costume but they would not have noticed the makeup.
But the only person who said anything about the part of me not covered by the makeup was the gay man. Although one straight man did comment that I smelled good.

It just proves... women dress for other women and gay guys, becuase straight guys just don't notice clothes or make-up. Unless we're dressed a "working girls." What a waste of effort.

Ohhhhh.... NOOOOOooooo.....
Guys DO notice... unforturnately, most guys DON'T understand what is different about a woman all the time. It is just that Wow... she looks great. Or hmmmm, something is amiss.
I tell you that I love makeup. NOT ALOT... but I think that most women can get so much out of a little mascara and eyeliner and lipstick. It isn't that guys don't notice in essence, it is that many guys are not astute enough to KNOW that they are noticing.
This post might sound shallow, and I am not really that way. But just as you might notice that a man who doesn't shaves looks 'scruffy', it is the same with a woman who may not wear makeup. PLEASE don't think that I think the external appearance makes the woman. PLEASE don't think that I am shallow. This is not the thrust of this post. I am saying this just because men DO notice. And not only that, but it means something to me. It means that a woman is willing to put a few minutes into her appearance, which means that she has some pride. And confindence is the MOST enticing thing in a woman for me.
So what do I recommend... set your clock earlier by 5 minutes. The question of beauty sleep or a little beauty enhancer is all that 5 minutes means.
(Might of stepped on a landmine here.)

There is so much to do in the morning. Two children to wake and feed and herd off to school. And we need to leave by 7:05. I set my alarm for 5:40 as it is. 5 fewer minutes of sleep?????????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
By the way, the cologne for the day was 'Obsession' which I thought was more appropriate for a gypsy than 'Angel'.

Hi,
I shouldn't read posts at work. I was giggling so much my co-workers thought I'd lost it.(more than usual) I read this after slopping my morning coffee on my white sweater. I really needed the makeup today.

I guess I should have had some vampy looking boots for my feet. But total strangers passed me on the sidewalk and greeted me with "Hello, Fraulein." And my hair is everywhich way and I have on all this eye makeup and cleavage and ....well, at least one man noticed.

Well, this morning I ran into the manager of my office. She is a work of art (not). She wears more eyeliner in one day than I wear in a year. She has bouffant bleached blonde hair that was a fashion don't in the 80s. Her makeup and hair style kind of remind me of Barbie's grandmother. You know, the plastic apple doesn't fall far from the plastic tree.
Anyway, she told me I should wear the gypsy makeup more often. It looked really good on me.
