I've been married for 26 years and haven't been happy for quite a while. My husband is very jealous of any relationship that I have including our daughter who is now 21 and any friends that I have. He wanted the relationship between my daughter and I to be over when she left 3 1/2 years ago for college. Resents time we spend on the phone or her weekends home. We have virtually no friends together and I have a few of my own that he resents. See a group of ladies once a month for dinner and one of the women every once in a while for a movie, etc. He told me the other day that when my friend and I go to the movies that people assume we are lesbians. I have to admit that over the years I have let him get by with crap like this because it was easier than confrontation and always figured it was easier to get rid of friendships than jeopardize my marriage. We have nothing in common -- he only enjoys Nascar. Won't go to a movie or watch a movie with me, doesn't like hiking or the outdoors. I feel like I'm going through a teenage rebellion because I am now purposely doing more things with friends. I refuse to let him use his control tactics. This is really hard on him but I'm 46 and don't want to spend the nest 30-40 years sitting on the couch doing nothing. I get no positive feedback from him and he is particularly rude to our daughter. Has never told her he loves her, doesn't hug her, etc. She's a great kid and has never given us any trouble. Her only sin is that her and I are close. Growing up he was never involved and always worked so her and I became very close. We have tried counseling years ago and it worked for a while and then things went back to the way they were. I don't think I have the energy to go back to counseling. Also our sex life is virtually non-existant. I have asked him to see a doctor but he ignores me. Am I making sex too important? I know a lot of women my age really don't care but I'm not ready to give up that part of my life either. He is 7 years older than me. Tell me there is life after divorce?!! Thanks for listening to my ranting
