Please go take this poll. I'm really interested in finding out whether the MB concepts really work, and the more people who take the poll, the better!

How do you answer truthfully when your xhusband counseling with the Harleys, but didn't want to do the principles. And also, he didn't want to read the books. I did the best I could, but we are divorced for 5 months now.

I'm interested because this is a set of methods and ways of living one's married life that's purported to work, and which makes a great deal of sense to me.

And yet, there is no hard scientific evidence that proves or disproves the theory.

The survey is, yep, not perfectly designed and has flaws associated with self-reporting and various other things. Nonetheless, the 31,000 people who've registered here must surely be the largest single-location group of people who've ever considered using the MB principles.

Are they a great sample? Nah; it's biased towards those who use the internet, those who are articulate writers, and those who've stayed here for longer than five minutes.

It's also just plain flawed, as many people have pointed out to me. (And I even had someone review it... ah well.) In any case, it'll be nice to be able to use the actual results of a survey in the discussions with newbies who are not sure that this is a good way to approach things.

When more than 100 people have answered, I'll post the most significant results, and I'll also try to keep the thread alive for long enough to really get a good solid bunch of responses.

Just J, Actually I think it's a really good poll. I was expecting to have more difficulty because I'm in a weird limbo, trying to divorce my alcoholic/addict husband, having no contact for 1.5 years with the help of a restraining order, while he seems to be successfully avoiding dealing with all my attempts to move things along. He's still living with MOW, who's still married also as far as I know, and who I hear is now also addicted, thanks to my S(omeday)TBXH.

Anyway, I was able to answer every question. Looks like most people feel MB has helped them personally, though I guess the ones who don't think that wouldn't stick around. But it's hard to say whether it helps marriages without a control group.

LetSTry, I'm glad you were able to answer the questions! I would do it a little differently if I could do it again, and I'm gad that it worked for you.

I think the personal results are really interesting too, as are the results that indicate that a lot of people use the basic principles (POJA, radical honesty, etc.). I do wonder how much the lack of time that people spend together hurts their marriages. It's a pretty small fraction who're getting the RDA of time with their partners. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

I agree that a control group would be necessary to really tell us if MB helps marriages (and individuals, for that matter). I wish I knew how to get one! Ah, well. That can be next year's project.
