Does anyone have any recomendations on a good anger management book?

First, I am not a violent person and have never hurt anyone.

W told me a while ago that my temper scares her at times and I should go to anger management classes.

Spoke to IC about this and he agreed that these classes are not for me. They are more for people with history of Domestiv Violence.

I told W that I would do something about it and she got me a list of books from her IC that I could try but I was looking for recomendations based on experience.

I do get angry at times and have a short temper and I guess I appear scary at the time but would never do anything physically violent. Now that I am more aware of it, I have been doing pretty good but I would still like to show W that I am doing something about it.

Good for you.

It take a lot of courage to admit there is a problem.

I personally will be completing my last night tonight of a 10 week anger management class. I do not agree with your IC that those classes are just for history abusers.

I physically struck my WH only once and afterwards, I voluntarily entered myself into these classes. I have learned a great deal about what triggers my anger, my bodily changes and signs of my temper rising.

I feel it would be very helpful to you to check it out. I am attending one at the nearest mental health clinic. I will warn you that they are expensive $380, but worth it if it prevents even the first time of physical violence.

I can also ask tonight for a good book title for you.

Good luck.

Thanks
Any recomended reading would be appreciated, especially with a fee like that for a class <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />

Maybe after the tax return <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

"The Dance of Anger" is one book.
I think there are also some specifically for men.

Libraries are wonderful places to learn without spending a fortune on books. BTW, I found that books on tape (self-help) allowed me to learn while driving to work. Sometimes I'd need to replay a tape if I zoned out, but it's otherwise dead time. Use it if you can. Dr. Phil & Wayne Dyer have alot of books on tape in the libraries.

For some reason though, I havn't been able to pick up anything by Dr.Phil since I saw an episode of Frasier about him <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

A really good one is "Controlling Your Emotions, Before They Control You" by Bob Phillips. He is a counselor and directore of a large Christian camp. He deals with alot of stuff in this book and it's very insightful.

The Emotionally Abusive Relationship gives names of movies to watch, and I've watched nearly all of them.

The best book I've read is "Buyers, Renters, and Freeloaders" by Harley. It explains that anger comes from a M in which both people feel like they are sacrificing and are getting the short end of the stick. When they've had enough, they get abusive. Harley's book "Love Busters" focuses on abuse, but I think that Buyers book gets to the root description for anger.

LoveMyEx,

I have heard of this book but havn'e looked into it yet. Thanks

broken heart and arm,
I was wondering if any of Harley's books addressed this. It is a common issue in M and figured he must have one or at least recomend a few. Your description sound just like what I may be looking for. I found that my temper gets short when I'l angry at W because
-- "anger comes from a M in which both people feel like they are sacrificing and are getting the short end of the stick."

Maybe I'll start there.

Thank You all

Here are a few books (some old) that my anger management counselor said are good.

Managing and Coping With Anger by Ingram, Leonard (Bhagwan).

Living in the Comfort Zone (The Gift of Boundaries in Relationships) by Lerner, Rokelle

Anger - How to Live with it and w/o it by Albert Ellis ****I was told this one is excellent***

Good luck,
FF
