The church I go to is lively, and the pastor has wonderful sermons. He is young at heart, and he grew up on a dairly farm in Wisconsin. He gives examples of growing up and how his father&mother used Christ in doing the chores and life on the farm.

Today he was talking about our jobs. Yes, we all work for materialistic items. Some of us hate our jobs. If we didn't have to buy anything, or pay for the utility bills we wouldn't have to work. But he stated, why don't we work for God while we are working instead of materialistic items. He gave the example of cleaning out the baby calf pens once a week on the farm. Pastor grumbled with his brothers and the father started in on how God created these mammals, that gave us food, and how God loves us for keeping his mammals in good health. The father said, with each load of muck, think of the heavy load lifted off your shoulders as you dump the load. And when the job is finished and fresh straw is placed in the pen, think of the outcome of the fresh smell of straw. Also, he pointed out that the calves would frolic in the fresh straw and actually play with the straw. What a joy to see at the end of the job.

Then he went into the 1/2 time football game show. Our church had quite a few men at one of the mens houses for the game. And during 1/2 time the men brought out their bibles. They decided to play a little football with the verses. Scoring yards with the verses. During Jacksons dance, they had the sound on low, and then when the incident happened, of course they all stopped to listen to what happened. Pastor like most, repeated that the incident was planned. There was no remorse or guilt for their actions. And many people are disgusted with the 1/2 time providers. He talked of how Jackson and the singer, sang a song of getting naked, and acted out their song. There is no morals, and flaunting is a sin. But what Pastor remarked on was no remorse or regret for the actors sinful acts. Many shows are like this today. God is watching, and there will be consequences to pay.

My kids tonight watched The Simpsons. I decided to watch cause I hated the show when it first came out. But my XH loved it, and didn't mind the kids watching it. Todays, Simpsons was sexually displaying boobs, and getting it on, procreation. I was totally disgusted with the Simpsons, and voiced my opinion. But the kids have been watching it with their dad since they were a lot younger. How they displayed sex and hips, and boobs. Yuk. Seems all the shows are getting dirtier and dirtier. This is one reason why I don't watch much TV. I would rather watch the Learning Channel, History Channel, etc. My kids laughed at the Simpsons tonight, and inside I was so upset. If I had my way from the beginning with the kids, and XH had agreed to get rid of the Simpsons I believe they would of agreed that the program is terrible. Cause the church we were going to at that time condemned the Simpsons, but XH said it is okay. Now I would like to know what he thinks of the kids watching this rotten program.

The morals seem to be going down. My Xhusband displayed to the kids morals are nothing. My XH told the kids it is okay to watch the Simpsons, I really worry about them, and I do pray for my kids even though they are 17-25 years of age.

Not everyone's morals are the same. I found the Jackson thing disgusting, but a child who has been taught good values will recognize it as such. The key is that parents have to watch ALL TV with their children. There is far too much TV in modern children's lives.
I think more important morals/values to learn are compassion, honesty, never judging a person until you've walked in their mocassins, kindness, unselfishness, and self-reliance/responsibility for oneself.

TV has gotten extremely dirty. Personally, I didn’t find Dharma and Gregg to be as offensive as say Friends, though it was still unsuitable for young children. In Dharma and Gregg, the two people were MARRIED! To each other even. Too bad not as many shows demonstrate happily married couples who are attracted to each other. Too often, TV comedies play off the worse case scenario in marriages.

But you’re right. Even the “family hour” of 8-9 is so full of smut one doesn’t dare turn on the television. And then, they run the reruns during the 6-8 time. There is no reason Will & Grace needs to be on at that time, no matter what.

I’m hoping though, that the pasties at half time have shocked us all so much that we’ll take the action necessary to change the tide. The best actions are writing to the big companies who buy advertising and turning off the television.

The Simpsons immoral? Geez, that show's been praised by at least one Christian group for it's very subtle push for family values and for having a very Christian presence on the show(the family goes to church, Ned Flanders, Reverend Lovejoy, multiple shows dealing with spiritual issues)at least up until season 5. Since then the writing's gotten lame but I would hardly classify it as immoral.

It's silly and cynical but at the root of it the family always sticks together and no one gets away with doing "bad" things.

I'm also not sure what episode you saw that showed a sexual display of boobs(meant as titilation rather than a joke or cynical stab at media) or anyone "getting it on" except the husband and wife and never with anything explicit. The shows that have dealt with adultery have always, without exception, have portrayed it as a really bad thing that always has consequences. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />
