Tomorrow morning I have to go have a medical test. We are trying to figure out what has been causing me discomfort off and on for months. Some sort of pain in the solar plexus area and in the throat.

Could be a gall bladder problem. Could be an ulcer. Could be a reflux problem. Could be a number of things. Could be stress.

It has bothered me at least 3 times in the last 15 years. Each time it happens, it lasts for months. Then it goes away.

10 weeks of medication and it has mostly gone away this time. But sometimes it nags. And a couple of weeks ago, it was truly acute - and cured by some Tums to go with the prescription medicine.

So, send up some prayers for me.

Please.

How long will it take to get the test results back?

I got there and they had not scheduled the test. When they called the imaging office, they were swamped and could have seen me in 4 more hours. I had taken the morning off from work - not the whole day so I felt I needed to get into work. Besides, I was hungry and when I am hungry, the discomfort is more likely to appear. Therefore, 5 or 6 more hours without food did not sound like a fun experience.

So, I have to be there at 8 am next Tuesday when they will do the ultrasound.

I sort of hope they find something fixable but I sort of hope they don't because I really don't want to have surgery.

The doctor wants them to see what my gall bladder is doing. He doesn't know if it's a reflux issue or a gall bladder issue.

I don't want to live on medicine and I don't want to have surgery.

TR---Grrrr, this is SOOO frustrating--especially when your expecting something to happen and it doesn't--

Thanks for your concern. It will be ok - however it turns out. I'm just glad it is usually not acute and that I can afford to deal with it.

Sounds a little like acid reflux. Have a friend who's a doc who suffers from it too and was recently dx with it.

He's doing alot better and thought at one point it was even a heart attack although ekg was normal...

I vote for reflux over having my gall bladder removed - although I have joked about seeing if I could have a tummy tuck at the same time they took out my gall bladder. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> You know, 2 babies both over 8.5# doesn't do a thing good for your tummy.

But surgery doesn't sound like a good idea.

The medicine has made everything tolerable. But would a reflux problem account for a sporadic choking feeling in my throat. No burning. But feeling constricted?

Anyway, the test is Tuesday a.m.

We got the answer we wanted! The gallbladder ultrasound was normal. I guess it is a reflux problem. Appears to surface every few years for several months - at least it gets bad about every 5 or 6 years. Maybe just a bit naggy the rest of the time.

Sounds like you need to stop drinking Martha's lemon and seltzer and save it for the stains.
